My HDTV was replaced by Toshiba (back light went) the new tv is a 32L1375DB. Everything seems fine except when I connect my PC via HDMI I have no sound.

I have check and AMD HDMI output is selected as the default on my windows 7 pc (i5 Processor, 8gb ram, AMD HD 5870 graphics card). The but under supported formats is says 0.

The audio over HDMI works perfectly to the old TV and nothing else on the system has change. The xbox, also connected to the new TV works fine. I have tried the HDMI cable from the xbox with the tv and tried it on both hdmi ports on the tv with the same result, great picture no sound.

Anyone else had this problem? Can anyone give me advice on how to solve it?

From your description it would appear the problem is in the TV and not the PC. The HDMI audio, from the PC worked on the old TV but does not work with the new TV. Possibly a setup problem in the new TV?

Workaround can you use speakers as default sound and run stereo cable from speaker out on PC to TV sound input?
Or does the TV assume no other sound option except HDMI as source for sound when HDMI TV input is selected?

I used to use vga from PC to TV and a separate sound cable.

Thanks for the input. I guess for whatever reason the two just aren't compatible. I discounted the problem being the tv as it works with xbox, but as the only thing to change is the tv .... I've been and got some speakers and hooked them up to the pc, so at least I have sound.

I'd still like to get to the bottom of it as I hate being beaten. So far I've updated all the drivers. un-installed completely and reinstalled. Disabled and then enabled both onboard sound and the GC card's sound. Pulled my hair out and drank too much coffee.

When you connect an HDMI cable to a PC, Windows in most cases will change the default audio playback device from the "Speakers" (PC audio) to HDMI. Check the Sound/Playback panel to see if this is happening. If its not, manually change the default playback device to HDMI and then see if you get sound on the TV.

Most speakers are better than tv speakers, so you are ahead anyway.

Reason I went to HDMI instad of VGA was HDCP with amazon was not allowing HD movie playback.
