Usually I use Nvidia graphic cards but in my new computer I have gone for the Radeon HD 5700 series card. Here is the problem. I have an older type game designed for a 4:3 display. I have a wide screen monitor which stretches the game video to fill the screen. In my old computer with the Nvidia display adapter I could choose a fixed aspect ratio to make the game appear normal. Can I do the same with the Radeon card? I haven't been able to find any such adjustments in the radeon software. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

If the monitor is connected via DVI, you can change the scaling options to GPU scalling with fixed aspect ratio.
Drop the Desktop resolution to the 4:3 res you intend to game at then

CCC - Desktop & Displays - Right Click small Monitor at bottom - Configure - Attributes - Tick Enable GPU scaling - Maintain aspect ratio.

Once set you can go back up to your native resolution. DX9 & GPU scaling works as intended. DX10 & 11 games only hold maintain aspect ratio if the desktop res is matched to the game res, before you launch the game.

Rick55,

Thanks for your very accurate description of what to do. It worked a treat. You obviously know your way round the Radeon software.

Thanks again,

cheers
