Last night I finished my brothers new build.

The specs are as follows:

MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-V LE LGA 1155 Intel Z68
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600
PSU:
CORSAIR Professional Series HX750 Modular 80+ Silver Certified
OS Drive: Corsair Force Series 3 SATA III 120GB
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) PC3 12800
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

The issue I ran into last night, was getting the mobo to recognize a discrete graphics card. The card in question is a single XFX Double D Radeon HD 6950 2GB.

After the card was installed I made sure: both six pins were firmly in place on both the psu and card. The fans spun, no signal.I reseated the card and 6 pins multiple times, to the same result.

So I tossed an old 8800 GT in the x16 slot to rule out the mobo having issues. Viola, boots right up. Shut the system down and reseated the 6950, made sure everything was connected. This time, viola on she comes. I made sure to disable the integrated gfx card before attempting to install the 6950 for a fifth time.

Was the card just not seated properly the first four times I tried to boot? I've never run into an issue such as this before.

I apologize if this seems like a waste of forum space, as the issue has been resolved; I just have no idea what could cause this, and it's driving me nuts! Any help/thoughts would be appreciated!

you might be right with the seating issue. have you had any troubles since?

the reason i ask is a failing power supply can cause similar issues, but repeated turning on and off will give the capacitors time to charge up and then give enough power to the gpu, while this is probably way off the mark if youve not had an issues since, its worth considering if your computer struggles to boot occasionally.

Thanks for the advice badger, I'll have my brother keep a look out for any boot issues. As you said it may have simply been the card not seating properly. If you think of anything else please let me know!

Thanks!

New issue with 6950's attempting to crossfire.

Edit: Marking this as solved and opening new thread for different issue.
