Radeon X1300 issue

After reviewing the forum, I see several people having trouble with getting the ATI Radeon X1300 graphics card to work with Windows 7. None of the solutions worked for me (so far)...

I've tried several iterations of Catalyst, including the most recent version, but none of those would work on my desktop. They showed up in the Programs menu, but when selected nothing would happen. No error message, nothing.

I noticed on person had installed Catalyst 8.1, so I tried that, and now the Control Center at least works, but only shows the monitor (ViewSonic VA903b) that's connected to my board, not the other monitor that's connected to the card.

I also downloaded the driver update for the X1300/X1500 from Microsoft and installed it, and apparently there are no (obvious) driver conflicts.

Any suggestions on what I can try next?

Thanks for the quick reply TorrentG.

The good news is that the CCC you recommended still operates as did the older version. The bad news is, I keep getting the following error message no matter what driver I try:

"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the displays manager."

One by one, I've used the following drivers, all with the same results;

X1300 (Microsoft Corp WDDM)
X1300 (Prerelease WDDM 1.0)
X1300/X1500 (Prerelease WDDM 1.0)
X1300/X1500 (Microsoft Corp - WDDM)

Am I missing something?

Dunno. I suspect that it's using the latest version CCC (9.10 as you've tried, instead of 9.8 like it should) because the installer will not downgrade CCC with the driver. It will keep the latest edition you ever installed.

How to fix? Leave the driver alone.

Open Computer (Windows Explorer.)

Click uninstall or change a program. Use ATI Catalyst Install Manager to uninstall CCC. You want the first choice, "Uninstall Manager" when it asks. Then custom. Uninstall only CCC.

When done, run setup.exe from the 9.8 I previously linked you to and enjoy.

Thanks again for your help TorrentG.

I followed your instructions, but it still didn't work so I uninstalled CCC again and changed the BIOS settings to disable the onboard video card and now it's working fine, even without CCC installed.

I guess I should have tried that first.

Get ATI Tray Tools. It is an excellent controller for ATI cards, similar in fashion. Many people do not install CCC and use ATI Tray Tools instead.

Glad you have working video.
