I just finished building a new machine with a Asus P7P55D PRO MB, Intel Core i5 750, 4GB Corsair DDR3 1600, 3 WD 640GB Black HDDs, EVGA GTS250 1GB, etc. In BIOS, following the Asus manual, I set up the HDs for 1HD with no RAID (OS and programs) and 2HDs in a RAID 1 volume. The OS loaded with no problems but when I checked Explorer only the C: drive showed up. I checked the BIOS and the drives were configured and the RAID driver was current. I searched the net and found some guidance on the Intel Matrix Manager. I ran the manager and it showed my configuration but said the volume wasn't initialized so I did that step (about 2 hrs for the 596GB volume). The volume still doesn't show up except in the manager software. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get this RAID 1 volume going???

Thanks in advance for any help.

RAID needs to be setup when you install Windows. You need to specify the RAID drivers during the installation process. Also, there is some BIOS tinkering involved. I'll poke around for you.

This is written for XP, but should work for Windows 7 as well: http://www.pctechguide.com/tutorials/RAID.htm

Hi pf,

I am aware of the procedure you sent me. Thank you. Because it appears my RAID is set up I found a similar post saying I could go into "Disk Management" and assign a drive letter to the volume and it would appear to Explorer. I will give that a try when I get home. If that doesn't work I may have to reinstall.

Thanks again. Bob

Well, RAID needs to be active from the time you install Windows since the exact same files need to be on both drives at the same time. So you will need to reinstall to activate it.

Hi pf,
Apparently that is the problem. I was following the Asus manual and the RAID sequence was out of sync with the actual install of Win 7. I did check Disk Management and I could set up a "simple" volume that spanned the two drives but after reading what a simple volume was I decided not to try that.
Thanks for the help.
