Raid 1 problem

Not sure this is the right forum so let me know if ot should be elsewhere.

I have new computer. I setup 2 WD 300GB drives in a RAID 1 setup. I have a hot swap connection on the chassis for 2.5 HDD. To use it I was told to change from IDE to AHCI in the Bios. Also had to make 1 change to registry which I did. Didn't work and now machine does not boot properly. It says CD-ROM missing medium etc. If I hit F8 it asks what i want to boot from and I select the HDD and it boots and runs fine. I looked at the two RAID drives (C & H) They are no longer have identical files and folders on them. This doesn't seem right. After doing some more homework I think the RAID 1 is broken but do not know how to check that. I also think I want to do away with the RAID 1 altogether and just image the drive to backup periodically using Acronis True Image sofwtare. Need help on fixing the boot problem or how to change from RAID 1 back to single drive withouthaving to reload. I am not totally lost! Thanks.

I'm sure that setting it to AHCI is what sunk you, does changing it back to RAID sort it?

Will try that when I get back home. If it fixes the boot problem do you know how to get rid of the RAID setup? And, can I then use AHCI?

I don't have much practical experience with RAID but from what we see here Windows 7 and RAID are not exactly the best of friends.



My advice would be to copy out any data you need to save, enable AHCI in the BIOS, disconnect all but a single Hard Disk Drive (HDD) from the motherboard, do a wipe (secure erase) to that HDD, create a single 100GB partition to clean install Windows to and see how that goes and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.
