RAID Issue When Upgrading to Windows 7

I run Vista HP X64 and am looking to upgrade to Windows 7 HP (not do a clean/custom install). Vista is running in an Intel RAID 10 config consisting of 4 physical drives to provide redundancy for my drives C:\ and D:\

When I load the Windows 7 DVD and and select "Upgrade" all goes well until the final step where Windows is transferring files to & configuring the new windows 7 install. At that stage I get a message that Windows cannot configure the new install and the only option provided is to revert to Vista.

My researches around the 'net suggest that I need to install the latest Intel Raid drivers for Window 7 during the Windows 7 upgrade.

I have the drivers on USB but cannot see anywhere in the "upgrade" dialogue any option that allows me to upgrade the drives.

Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated. Or, is the option to upgrade the drivers only available in the "custom/clean" install process.

thanks
John
