Hello

I'm trying to create RAID0 with two drives. The first is 320GB and second 1TB.
I know it won't be 1,32TB. The summary capacity should be 1229,5 GB (298.0 + 931.5).
It asks for RAID name, RAID level, Strip Size and Capacity.
Capacity is by default 596.2 GB and below is "The default value indicates the maximum capacity using the selected disks....".

What am I doing wrong? I hope the maximum size could be at least 1100GB.
How is it posible to have available only a half of the smaller drive?

I have GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3-B3 (BIOS version F10)
Drives Samsung (320GB) and Western Digital (1.0TB)
CPU: Intel Core i3-2100

Thank You.. :)

Hello Ejmin, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In a RAID setup, it will only use the amount of space from each drive as the total amount of the smallest drive in the RAID. Since your smallest drive in the RAID is 320GB (actually 298.1GB), it will only use 320GB from the second 1TB HDD. This gives you 320GB + 320GB = 640GB with a true size of 596.2GB (298.1 + 298.1). :(

When setting up a RAID, it's best to have the HDDs all be the same size so that you will be able to use all of the space on all HDDs.

So it is not efficient for this disks. I don't want to lose 360GB of space.

Thanks for reply.

You're welcome.

Yeah, it's not a very efficient way of using the 1TB HDD. You would be losing around 704GB from the 1TB HDD since it will be limited to only using 320GB due to the other drive being only 320GB. :(
