Not likely, how much free ram do you have now ? But if you can afford it, go for it.

Post a snip of your resource monitor.

Monitor how much ram you use at any given time for a week or so before you make a purchase.

4 GBs is cheap enough if you really felt better about getting it.

Don't know what AddRam thinks but as it is there is little being used and I am not a gamer so I cannot comment but I have seen lots on here that say 8GB is usually stacks unless you are into some pretty serious stuff.

What brand are you using? The G Skill forum is a good stop if you are using that brand Tradesman in there is top notch advisor. Welcome to the G.SKILL TECH FORUM

Hardcore gaming will never use that much RAM, but editing/encoding will probably use more than 8GB. You always want to have more than you need because if you ever run out, it will pretty much throw a wrench in the gears.

Yes, buy a matching set of RAM.......can't stress this enough. Either a 4x4GB kit, or a 2x8GB kit. Whatever you decide on, don't put it off, RAM is only becoming more and more expensive. I always recommend either Corsair or G Skill RAM.......can't go wrong.

What CPU/Motherboard are you looking at? If I were you, I would go with a 2x8GB kit, so in the future you would have the option of adding another 2x8GB kit IF you saw you were bumping up against the 16GB you currently have. Also, get something fairly common so 6-8 months down the road you can get another kit with the same timings and frequency if need be.

Here is what I would go with:

Corsair Vengeance 16GB

or

G.Skill Ripjaw X Series 16GB

You could go with faster RAM if you think you need it, but 1600MHz is fine for 99.9% of people.

I think KBrady is right on the money Emmet and look if you are going G Skill then that Tradesman fellow I pointed you in the direction of is just fantastic at sorting not only G Skill products but RAM in general.

He helped me with my Ivy Bridge build and the Sandy Bridge before that and matched the boards 1 Asus and the other Gigabyte with RAM needed for each brand.
For example if and when I do the Haswell I shall go straight there for what RAM I shall need despite what the board manufacturers listings are.:)
