Hi there guys

I was wondering about replacing my RAM on the motherboard MSI 890FXA-GD70. I have OCZ Gold 1600 2GB at the moment. Today I got some rather unknown to me ADATA DDR3 1333 2x2GB modules. As soon as i take out the OCZ module and put the ADATA into my computer, the motherboard does not let me go past the CPU loading phase, and nothing shows up on the screen.

Is there something I could do about this, upgrade my BIOS, reset it's settings?
On MSI's website it says
"Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 1.5 Volt DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*/1800*/2133* (OC) DRAM, 32GB Max", that's the reason I purchased these RAM Modules.

I would be grateful for any kind of help on the subject, I can provide anymore information if required.

thank you in advance.

Have you taken the ram out and reseated it? And are you sure that the ram is in the correct slots? I had an MSI mb, and if there was not ram in a certain slot, it would not run. Of course, there is also the possibility that the ram is bad also. Will it post enough for you to boot into a CD. If so download memtest86 and run it for 8 passes or until you see errors.

My original ram OCZ gold 2x2GB modules broke down ... I have a huge radiator/fan from Zalman ... and replaced them with just one OCZ gold 2GB module, just different with voltage ... Okay, now the point is.... I couldn't fit it into the first slot, so it's in the 4th slot at the moment and works fine ... Just need an upgrade

And now ... Today I bought these ADATA ones (2gb each module, exactly the same) ... luckily i thought, they didn't have any heatsinks so it will be easier to install them. They Are in the 3rd and 4th slot on my motherboard, as it is difficult to put them into those 2 first slots (because of the cooler)

Okay, memtest will be impossible on these, the motherboard doesn't start the CPU phase, meaning it does not display anything on the screen at all.

Would you have any other suggestions?

Thank you.

Check your MB manual for the correct slots to put the RAM in.

On the side of the ADATA sticks you should see the timings and voltage; go into the BIOS and set the RAM to those timings and voltage.

You might try just using one stick to start with but check the manual and put it in the correct DIMM slot.

Okay, RAM issue is now resolved, thank you very much for your help. It was actually nothing to do with my RAM or the slots. During this time ... My CPU cooler stopped working so ...

I Bought a Corsair H80 liquid cooler ... My CPU is getting to 89-95 degrees Celcius :O ... Faulty pump? Cooling fans seem to be working alright. Turned off on me 3 times ... I left it for 2 days when I went away .. Now it doesn't turn off but Core Temp software indicates that 70 degrees celcius is the maximum.

The pump has to run 100% all of the time. If you can't accomplish that in BIOS, use a fan adapter and connect it directly to the PSU. Do not run your CPU with those temps. Check the installation and if this does not help RMA the H80. Use something else in the meantime.

First of all, sorry for replying so late.

I have identified the problem already, which was my stupidity at its highest :P
4 pin and molex adapter for the H80 MUST be plugged in at the same time, one for controlling the fans and one for its power, my CPU is at 29 degrees now. What I did was have the 4 pin plugged in and the molex left aside, because I was afraid this would overpower the pump and fans ... I mean, it made sense from my point of view back then ... but I was really wrong. (By the way, they do not mention this on the instruction, so I was confused)

Everything seems perfect now, I also bought and installed 8GB Corsair Vengenance RAM, I have not encountered a single problem since then.

Thank you for your help, once again, this forum has solved my problems and my computer is running like a dream.

That's a much better CPU temp. Just remember you can control the speed of the fans attached to the radiator, but the pump has to run 100% all the time. I believe that is what you meant was plugged into the molex, was the pump. That is good, it will run 100%. Glad you got it sorted out.
