Ram fan cooler

hi everyone whats the general opinion of ram coolers? im thinking of them if they are worthwhile i have seen this one thats on offer Corsair CMXAF1 Dominator Memory Fan Cooler

Hi,

I see that you are using DDR2 RAM, this could get hotter than DDR3 RAM because of the higher voltage used. If you want to overclock your RAM it is always better to use a RAM cooler to protect the RAM and may be helping in getting a higher overclock stable. Extra cooling is always better and a RAM cooler will cool the RAM and the surrounding components. They are not that expensive but can sometimes be a bit noisy because of the small fans and high RPM. I'm using the OCZ XTC cooler and it has a high/low switch and when set on low it is almost inaudible.

I have a Corsair "RAM Cooler" and have yet to have a need for it. Though I've used it on both DDR2 & 3 RAM, It's currently sitting in my parts bin, away from my overclocked system

As for noise, I can't say it was any louder than the other fans in my system.

I use a Corsair Dominator Ram cooler and as far as noise goes I don't even hear it. As far as how much it reduces the heat well I have no idea. I bought it back when I was into overclocking my DFI NF4 SLI Expert board with Mushkin Redlines DDR500 and just keep on using it.
I figure the more air you circulate the bettter. Plus it's easy to use. JMO Fabe

Yes, DDR3 is mostly from 1.5v to 1.65v.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

You use DDR2 1.8v, the standard voltage for DDR2 is 1.8v (some modules of DDR2 require even more 1.9v-2.2v) because this is higher than the standard for DDR3 wich is 1.5v (a lot of memory of DDR3 needs 1.65v) DDR2 could get hotter because it uses a higher voltage.

So the need for a RAM cooler for DDR3 on stock settings is less important than for DDR2.
Also a lot of DDR3 RAM comes with heatspreaders wich also helps with heat dissipation.

I see you also have heatspreaders on your RAM, but still my opinion and that of thefabe stands the more air circulation/cooling the better. And according to thefabe you can't hear the Dominator RAM cooler so that's no problem too.

I know about the logo , I use a PSU and case from them, had the H50 as well.

well i can get the Corsair CMXAF1 Dominator Memory Fan Cooler for £10.00 so its quite cheap i thought but will it fit? its for the Dominator ram i wonder if it would fit in as a bay cooler?

If your RAM isn't higher than the Dominator modules it should fit.
