Solved Ram Issues...Maybe?(Speeds)

Alright guys/gals,

If you could be so kind as to take a look at the pic below and give me some input on why the Ram in slots 2,4 are reporting slower than slots 1,3?
Any input would be great. System Specs below. If you need any other info just ask and I will be more than happy to get it for you.

Why not start with a memory test to be sure of no problems with memory, itself?

I'm not sure what you mean, but where are you getting that your memory is running slower in different spots?

What I see is that you have two different types of memory installed, yet you are running them both at the higher speed....so your lower speed memory is actually overclocked.

Assuming the system is stable, what makes you think you are having a problem? Seems normal to me.

I will be running memtest86+ later tonight (most likely over-night) but I dont think it will show any errors,as I'm not having any real problems with them.

I'm not trying to be rude here but did you even read the post and take a look at the pic?? I do NOT have two different types of memory installed, as you can see in my system specs and the above pic. (please take a second look at Manufacturer Name & Part Numbers) It is a match set 4x4gb sticks.
Also my system is Rock-solid stable, I also never said I was having a "Problem".(I will Edit my first post to reword "running" to "Reporting" to stop confusion) I was just asking if anyone here had noticed this before on any system, or could tell me why(or how to fix) it is reporting the different speeds and timings as seen in the pic.
As you can see all sticks are running in XMP mode @1600MHz, but Slots 2&4 are reporting...667MHz(1333MHz) and XMP timings of 9-9-9-25-40-2T @1.5v. Then Slots 1&3 are reporting...800MHz(1600MHz) and XMP timings of 9-9-9-25-33-2T @1.5v.

You are right in what it is reporting, but notice that eachstick under the SPD tab shows an XMP value of 800, the short answer is the memory tab seems to indicate they are running at 1600 as they should, why they are reported as different, I don't know. the XMP speed of all sticks is the same. A 1333 stick would not have an XMP value of 800. So, whatever it is reporting, it's running like it should.

I think I may have worded what I was asking a little funny or just worded it wrong..:shock:

I do already know they are running XMP @1600MHz and running fine. I guess I should of said that in the first post, I did however put it in the 2nd post "As you can see all sticks are running in XMP mode @1600MHz,".

I was just trying to find out if anyone knew why the sticks would report that way?

I did go ahead and run a report by using RAMMon just to make sure CPU-z wasn't reading them wrong but got the same readings(see pics below).

I knew exactly what you were asking. I just don't know why. I was just saying, you are right, because a 1333 stick wouldn't have an XMP of 800. It may be a good question to ask on the G Skill Forums.

Personally I think CPUz is flaky in its reported Max Bandwidth. It may be due to CPUz can't properly read the SPD chips on 4 sticks of RAM at once, just my theory.

It also reports my 125W CPU as 133W.

If you look at the max bandwidth section, there are two different speeds listed. I am going to have to assume you've never heard that sometimes memory can be counterfeit and stated to run at a higher speed than it actually is (so it can be sold at a premium). Instead of worrying about being rude....take that time to wonder if there's something you don't know, and use it as a learning experience. If you've purchased the memory together from a reputable source, then you have nothing to worry about. I saw different specs listed in your screenshot, and that's what made me question it.

Aren't those two words used when there's a problem? I'm not trying to be rude at all, but nothing pisses off forum members more than someone who jumps at us in a reply when we're only trying to help. We aren't being paid to answer your questions or help you out.

As I have said in many memory related threads, worrying about timings and speeds is usually a waste of time. You stated your system is rock solid. That's the first major hurdle, and it's cleared. If you can run some memory becnhmarks and get scores within what you should expect, then you can chalk it up to a little app not reading the proper information, and go about using and enjoying your system.

I have seen the max bandwidth section along with the timing section, Thats what started this thread. I'm also well aware of fake specs floating around but this was not the case here, as they are running as advertised and just reporting wrong. They were purchased at reputable source (Newegg). It is also reporting wrong in other apps as well (see above pics). I'm guessing that the wrong info for apps to read was put in the chip at the factories..


Now on a side note.....

DeaconFrost... you and I seem to be talking about the same things, just in our own ways and words. You see an "Issue" as a problem to be fixed, I see an "Issue" as not a problem but still could be fixed. I think the way we each word what we have to say and read what each other writes is just polar-opposite of one another. Yet we speak of the same things. I was not trying to be rude and nor were you, as well as I was not trying to "jump" on you for helping. We just see things in a different shades. We both are though!

To me, we don't have an "issue" or a "problem" with each other! It's all good.

Honestly, I was more worried that we were going to find out you had counterfeit memory or that you were sold something that wasn't quite what you were told. I'm glad neither is the case. I'm going to be curious to try CPU-z on my home system and see how it detects my memory.

It's also a manufatcurer over and under rating RAM too, marketing ploys. I know a builder who has some GSkill 1866 stable at 2133 on an Intel platform. Make that RAM look attractive. yes?

They are a slightly different model of RAM sticks. But as noted they all have XMP 1600 at the same CAS latency so it is OK. Unless you are having stability issues don't worry.
