RAM problem

Hi i am new to this forum and want help on a problem
I have just completed my rig and am facing a problem with the RAM.

The Physical RAM as shown in the Computer Properties(It says 3.25 Usable??) and every other software is 3 Gb DDR3 while i have 4 Gb DDR3 installed

Please post a solution for the problem..(
is my Comp using less memory than installed physically???
In a fix please help!! (

One of your ram sticks may be malfunctioning, you should also know that 32-BIT operating systems can only use between 2.6 and 3.5 GB of ram.

To check if your ram is bad:

Download MemTest86

Burn it to CD/DVD using an ISO burner such as IMGBurn

Boot from the disc. (You may have to change your boot order via your BIOS)

You can copy MemTest86 to floppy too, if you have a floppy drive on your rig. And he's right, the x86 architecture [32 bit] can't use all of the 4GB's of RAM you have. You can try to use a physical address extension switch though [/PAE].

You are running a x32 bit operating system witch is limited to 3.XX GB of RAM (it varies from system to system) in order to use the full 4GB you need to install x64 bit version of windows.

You will need a 64-bit version of Windows7 to be able to use all your 4GB of RAM

You probably don't have bad ram after all, I thought your system was only reporting 3GB, please be clearer in the beginning (the edit helped). It wouldn't hurt to run MemTest86 anyway, but make sure you run it when you're out at work or something, a proper test takes hours to complete.

If you have a Windows 7 installation DVD that's an upgrade or retail install, you can format and change to 64-bit. Make sure you backup your files first though, as a format will erase all data.

However, if your computer came with Windows 7 pre-installed via the manufacturer or you have an OEM disc then you'll need to purchase a new disc that is 64-bit. You can either get a 64-bit OEM disc, an upgrade disc or a retail disc. The last two come w/ both x86 & x64 as choices.

thnx that's helping but plz tell me is my computer not using the whole ram or is it just x86 problem?? Btw if i upgrade to 64-bit than will i be able to run crysis warhead cs1.6 and others??? and what about the softwares??? i play DOTA too!!

It's not utilizing all 4Gb because it is x86 - and you can still run those games in x86.

The majority of games won't use more than 2GB anyway.

Yes, Windows 7 64-bit will run 32-bit applications. You might have to run some of them in compatibility mode though. If they are newer games, you probably won't have to run compatibility mode though. If you want the full use of your RAM, then install the 64-bit version of Windows 7. We've all been telling you the same thing....LOL

Please note that if you install the 64bit version, you will need to reinstall your programs... You cant do an in-place upgrade from 32 to 64bit ...

There's no such thing as a Windows "x32" operating system. 32 bit Windows operating systems are the x86 architecture. No doubt you are confusing people with the "x32" thing. Just a heads up.
