RAM Replacement Question

A quick question to basically gather some information..

This Laptop (VGNN130G) came with 2 x 512mb sticks. Does one have to upgrade 2 x 1GB or can it be one 1GB stick and leave one of the 512mb sticks?

Question being, do u have to always place 2 sticks with the same capacity and speed etc or...speed remaining the same the capacity of the two sticks can be different.

Can be different. Ram is cheap and having 2 gigs is far better than 1.5. go for the 2x 1gigs

An option with one 1GB stick and one 512MB is included.

I worry about mixing different makes of RAM. It should work, but I've had it fail. As you can buy two 1GB DDR2 SODIMMs for $36 (+ shipping) from www.newegg.com (if you're in the US or Canada), I suggest that you go for the full 2GB, and save yourself some potential headaches.

Thanks for the advice and info folks. Your time is greatly appreciated. I had an extra ram stick for 1GB laying about..but i guess its a no brain-er to not get one extra stick to go with it!!!

Just a quick note. Make sure that if your going to get another 1 gig stick that you try and match the manufacturer (is the best) speed, timings and volts. Or at least whoever made the memory chip. Mix matching ram can lead to nightmares. Fabe
