RAM Timings Issue

Honestly, there isn't much to say, just check the Speccy Screenshot below:

The stick in Slot #3 seems to be from a different model. Which is what I think is causing my timing to be so screwed up. I mean seriously, 5-15-14-63 thats rubbish!

What's going on here fellas?

Have you tried to swap slots for that Corsair Dimm n°3 ?

That might confirm one of you ram stick is bad or the slot damaged?

Yea as NoN suggested, swap the sticks around, then it can be narrowed down.
Isn't your default: 4-4-4-12 timings ?

I think the default for these is 5-5-5-12 actually. I think the G series has 4-4-4-12 clocks. I'm not really sure. But now that I can remember, I bought the first two 3 years ago, then I decided to upgrade to 4gb about a year and half ago.

I'm gonna turn off and play with the sticks. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll let you know with a screenshot soon.

Ok I just did some tests, very weird results... I'm losing my mind here. What is going on here? The first screenshot is the system without the "suspected" stick:

I don't know why the memory timings are at 5-5-5-18 instead of 4-4-4-12 but that's more reasonable than what I've got above with the defective ram.

Now this is a screenshot of the system with SLOT4 replaced with the defective ram. Still running at 3GB:

Any explanation for this?

Looks better. There's a thread about having 4Gb Ram and only 3Gb Ram appear on Windows 7...

Quick question are these 2 x2gb kits? Or are they from different manufactureres? If they're kits it would seem you have got a bad stick. I would reccomend testing each ram stick 1 at a time using memtest at least 5 or more passes. Check the cpu-z report o n the stick and it's timings. CPUID Memtest Memtest86 - Download Page Fabe

I think your last set of screens gave you the answer. No matter which slot you put the bad stick in it either doesn't show up (in slot 4), or screws with the spd timings (slot 3)... right?

It looks like someone sold you a bogey stick with different timings, hence, the offset timing.
The 5-5-5-18 (with the good sticks) is a jedec standard timings which will load by default unless you change that via the bios or software. The 4-4-4-12 timings dont seem to be available (SPD.ext - EPP = 0) and would need to be manually set - you could check this with CPUZ as fabe suggested ( CPUID )- it will show the timings for both the jedec 1 & 2 and the voltage (1.8volts) - and if there is a SPD.extention (EPP = 1.0) probably (2.1volts) @ 4-4-4-12.
Also check that bogey stick if you intend keeping it with memtest as fabe said. I have the same memory, and dont know whether you should get another pair, a refund or what - i think if you bing the problem you will get an answer to whether its advisable.

After looking at the last pic 5-5-5-18 is jedec 2 and 4-4-4 -12 as jedec 1 (1.8 volts) and the SPD.ext at 4-4-4-12 (2.1 volts) - with mine its different timings in jedec 2, and I originally bought a pair of sticks which shows the SPD.ext and later down the track bought another pair which doesnt - similar to your last pic only your minus the bogey stick being shown. What I did with mine was to turn up the FSB in the bios which automatically resets the cpu voltage and memory, so removes the headaches - the cpu goes from 3.0ghz to 3.8ghz and it retains the 5-5-5-18 timings for the memory @ 1.8 volts - since Im only using a standard intel cooler I havent worried about going any higher - the main barrier is finding the right software to do it - i guess it needs about 2.2 volts for the memory.

ps disregard the SPD.extention (EPP = 1.0) yours shows EPP =0 mine shows the equal to 1 etc

Just got a reply from Corsair. The said that the stick seems to have been mislabled and mispackaged when I bought the kit way back. They want me to send them both sticks and they will send me a replacement pair.

I was also suggested that I should just sell the XMS2s and get this Kit.

I think I'm going to RMA the bogey, get a replacement and just sell the XMS2s and buy the G.SKILLs.
