Best solution: Add more RAM

1GB is the bare minimum RAM for Windows 7, so its perfectly normal that it lags a lot

Hi manrah09 and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Whilst you can run Windows 7 on just 1GB of RAM it is not recommended as you will have very poor performance, more so with laptops as a portion of the memory is allocated to the graphics. For this reason, many laptops come with the Starter edition as this is not as resource hungry as other editions. The only way you can improve performance is to increase the amount of RAM installed upto the maximum your laptop supports.

If you have a fast USB thumbdrive, you could look at Superfetch to speed things
up.

Superfetch preloads Applications into RAM for a faster Start but that of course needs RAM :D :D
