My Probook has 8 gigs of RAM. I want to upgrade to 16 gigs. What effect if any will that have on my device?

The first thing you have to do is make sure that your Probook can take 16 GB of RAM.

Unless you are doing anything that consumes a lot of RAM, there's no difference. I wouldn't upgrade the 6455b.

I agree with Bat 1 about the SSD. Two things which will speed up your computer are (1) lots of memory and (2) an SSD. You already have lots of memory, so now try the SSD.

I use Samba to share my data drive with the other computers at my house and with my guest session in VMWare Workstation Player.
Thank you. I was about to upgrade the memory to 16 gigs in the 6470b and the 6455b. I guess I don't need to now. My next computer will be an SSD.

8G of memory is more than you will ever need.

You have no idea what a SSD can do for your computer. Boots in seconds and open programs at a blink of an eye.
You can clone the HDD to the SSD and then insert the HDD on an enclosure to have extra space and a backup drive.

My suggestion:

- With CCleaner (CCleaner - Standard) clean your HDD.
- De fragment your HDD (%windir%\system32\dfrgui.exe).
- Install https://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v7/ReflectDLHF.exe
- Insert the SSD on the enclosure.
- Use Macrium Reflect to clone the HDD on the SSD.
- Power off, remove the battery, open the case and replace the HDD by the SSD.
- Test the laptop with the SSD.
- Insert the HDD on the enclosure.

I looked at links you sent me, they have an HP SSD drive!! Are they easy to install? What about my operating system?

You should first do a backup of your HDD, then remove it and install the SSD, then do a restore to the SSD. Then make sure TRIM is turned on, and you're good to go. You can then either use the HDD as a secondary drive, or store it as a full backup of your computer.

Make sure that you create the emergency DVD when you do the backup, so that you'll be able to boot the computer and do the restore when the SSD is installed. The emergency DVD is made inside of your backup program. When you boot with it, you are simply booting into a standalone version of the backup program, allowing you to then do a restore.

Note: You don't need a SSD the size of the HDD. Windows and Programs won't require more than 85G. The SSD size is more related to your data.
Open Explorer, right click on the C: drive - Properties to see what is the space been used. This would be the guide line for your purchase (128, 256, 512G or 1T).

Does yours have a ODD (CD/DVD) drive?
There is an upgrade bay (pag 73) that you can use to replace the ODD with a second HDD or SSD.
As ODD is obsolete (if needed you can use a USB CD/DVD) to have a small SSD (128G) and a HDD is the best of the two.
You'll have the speed of a SSD and the space of a HDD for a very low price.
That is what I have on Desktop.
