You should first do a backup of your HDD, then remove it and install the SSD, then do a restore to the SSD. Then make sure TRIM is turned on, and you're good to go. You can then either use the HDD as a secondary drive, or store it as a full backup of your computer.
Make sure that you create the emergency DVD when you do the backup, so that you'll be able to boot the computer and do the restore when the SSD is installed. The emergency DVD is made inside of your backup program. When you boot with it, you are simply booting into a standalone version of the backup program, allowing you to then do a restore.
