Hi everyone,

Glad I found this place. I found that potentially some of the updates could have corrupted some of my windows files (thanks to you all for the heads up). Here's the summary below. If it helps, I do have windows 10 reserved--I saw some other post saying that might also be making some bad changes. Thanks in advance.

SFCFix version 2.4.5.0 by niemiro.

Hey all,

I really need the help, here. Please take a look at what I've posted. I ran a few programs from some other guides and cleaned up registry with CCleaner. Right now comctl32.dll is missing. I found a site to download that file and replace it-my windows will not give me permission. I free up permissions-it claims that file is being used elsewhere, but I can't find the source. A lot of my programs won't respond because this important set of files isn't available and I can't find clearer explanations, or those that seemed relevant were also given as computer-specific examples and wouldn't apply to me. Please, please, take a look here or tell me what else you need so I can get my machine running again. Thank you.

Patience. Someone will post when they get a chance.

I would slow down and think before using some downloaded file.

Nothing's been changed in the registry, so I have a better hold on myself right now. I'm doing my best to be patient. I can't find the OEM CD I have (but I read somewhere that this might not necessarily help, depending). I ran Bitdefender and found one file that got fixed, but the two files in question above are still corrupted and I can't really run any of the applications that I frequently use (or activate .exe files). Really hoping that someone sees this by the end of today.

EDIT: I will say that I've seen newer posts getting answered already, so what is the reasonable amount of time I should expect to get in touch with someone who can help me solve this?

There is only a few people that can troubleshoot the problem you are having, others that get an answer quicker have issues we have an idea about.

It appears that windows 7 is likely corrupted for good. And the more I use my OS, the more programs are becoming slower or more difficult to use. I have win8.1 and will start again from scratch. Currently, just going through everything and making a backup folder for my new exterior HDD so I have a bunch of installers ready to go. Thanks to those who at least checked in here and provided a response.
