Assembled my first DIY desktop in April with guidance from Newegg videos. All has been well and good until the latest Windows update around 07-11-12. During the update I got my first BSOD. I completed the Windows update successfully by installing them one-by-one. Ever since then I have had random BSOD.

Hello there!

Seems like it might be Norton that's causing it. First remove Norton Internet Security and use the Cleanup Tool to remove the left over files. Then install Microsoft Security Essentials as a replacement.

Hi Capt Jack! Thank you for the response.
Is it worth trying to reinstall Norton? I have used NIS for quite a few years on multiple computers and have been happy so far. I am currently running 2 other Windows 7 machines with NIS 2012 without issues. Or should I just bag it and install MSE?

Yes you can install it back and see if you're having the same problem. If you do then better speak with Symantec support since you have paid for the product.

Hello. Thought I would post a quick update in case others were in the same boat.
I did a clean install of NIS and ended up getting BSOD again. After doing a little more searching I found this link from Norton support that is supposed to address this exact issue. I followed the steps in their link and have been BSOD free so far for 2 weeks. Hopefully it stays that way! One note, the cmd entry should be: "sc config bhdrvx64 start= disabled" for Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure this will help other users with similar problems.
