Hey guys,

This just happened a few hours ago, I was playing a game when suddenly the screen froze and poped up a small bsod then black screen. Btw this is a laptop running Win 7 Ultimate. I force shut down my laptop and tried turning it on again, the screen stayed black but the power, wifi and caps lock keys have lights. So I thought, its still booting up.

Next thing I did was connect the laptop to an external monitor via vga. Instantly the diaplay appeared altho, after the BIOS boot up, it gave me the chance to select safe mode options and normal boot. I tried booting it normally but it gave me the bsod error and this is what it says:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.

*standard bsod message here*

Technical information:

STOP: 0x00000116

atikmpag.sys - Address goes here

*standard bsod message/dump message*"

Ok, and then after that I tried installing the ati drivers while on safe boot and it failed.

I havent tried reinstalling a new copy of windows or reformatting, so any suggestions what might have caused this and how can I solve it? I do feel that its not a hardware issue since it can run on safe boot fine with the external monitor.

Ok, so basically this is not solved, and its a graphics card driver problem. This thread should not be here. Thank you and my apologies
