Long story short, one night I had a BSOD and since then my dell inspiron 1720 has been acting strange. I went ahead and reinstalled the OS, formatting the hard drive in the process, and even then the computer bluescreens at random, so I assume it's a hardware problem.

On a second note, there's what seems to be a specific BSOD that happens whenever I try to open links in skype and I have no idea what the deal is with that. Any help at this point would be appreciated.

No I'm not using an antivirus at the moment (no money). I'll try the update though and see what's what.

I don't normally run without protection. Malwarebytes is one I'm familiar with and keep on the side, but due to the instability of my pc at this time, I was wary of installing it just yet. As for the other one, I'll have to look into that. I've had issues installing things like Windows Live Essentials and Microsoft updates after that first BSOD, but that's something I plan to look at another time.

Also, I did update the driver. I'm not sure what that was supposed to do, but it did seem to let me click a link on skype once (the second time it bluescreened).

Delete remnants of older drivers using Driver Sweeper then install the latest ones.

Ok...Done. I guess now my question is what exactly was that supposed to solve? o.0 The randoms or the skype? Or is there any way to know?
Also, I've been away from my laptop for the past few days so sorry about the late reply.

The driver is from 2008 which is pretty old, getting newer driver for it should solve the BSOD problem. If it does not, upload the latest BSOD .dmps you got.

Okay! Well after some skype testing and computer running, I'm happy to announce that it seems that this problem has been successfully fixed.
My computer no longer BSOD out of the blue (no pun intended) and it ALSO no longer bluescreens when clicking links in skype.

Thanks guys. You've been a REALLY big help.
