Hello all,
I am getting BSODs and I do not know what else to do. I tried everything that came up to my mind. Brief history of the issue:
Had Windows Vista installed and decided that would be good to update to Windows 7. I replaced my old hard drive (fully functional) with a SSD (just for the OS) and a brand new 2TB HD. BSODs started coming up randomnly: playing video, browsing the web, doing nothing..... I tried debugging this issue from a HW point of view: disconnected the video card (the motherboard has one built-in), removed half the RAM (then put it back in and removed the other half), replaced the new drives with the old one and re-installed Win7, etc... the only thing I could not remove was the motherboard and the processor. From a software point of view, I re-installed Win7 several times and updated all the drivers in the system. Last thing I tried: put in the old HD and re-installed Windows Vista (just what I had before I decided to upgrade the system). In all cases, including the last one (Vista), I get random BSODs.

I followed the instructions and generated the required reports. Please find them as attachment. Also, I zipped the info that comes up next time Windows starts after the BSOD (the last 2 times that happened).

I have Windows 7 Professional Edition 64b SP1. Computer is about 4 years old:
AMD Athlon Dual Core BE2400 2.3GHz
RAM: 2x2Gb
Nvidia GeForce 940GT
Motherboard: GA-MA69GM-S2H

I really need help. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi panais,
I followed your instructions and everything looks good so far. I will run memtest overnight and will post again tomorrow morning.

Avira was on the system because I thought the BSOD issue had something to do with the antivirus I had before: AVG. Not a big difference though. Hopefully MSE will work better this way.

Updated driver successfully installed.

sfc /scannow command did not report any errors.

I will post memtest results tomorrow morning and, assuming everything works fine from now on, I will post again to confirm it 48 hours later. If the BSOD event does not show up in 48 hours, I am confident the issue is fixed.

Thanks a million!!!

Hi panais,
I am afraid I am still facing the same issue....memtest reported no errors after 8 hours running. However, I left the computer downloading some files and the BSOD showed up again. Attached files with info for experts.

Any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi panais,
I enabled driver verifier and did not notice BSODs more often than as usual - every 24 hours or so if I do not switch off the PC.

Dump files attached......hope they contain usefull information to debug the issue.

Thanks a million!!!

Run Prime 95 to test your CPU. Carefully the instructions in this tutorial: CPU - Stress Test with Prime95. Run 3 separate tests, one on each of the settings (Blend, Small FFTs, Large FFTs). Post back with your results.
Note that this test may overheat the CPU, ensure proper cooling

Prime 95: test Blend. No errors reported after 2 hours.

Will run the other 2 tests and will post back the results.

Thanks!

Prime95 Blend and small FFTs tests did not report any errors, however, large FFTs test reported a hardware failure:
FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Can anybody provide me with some details on what this problem means? is it genuine? When can I expect the computer to fail due to this?

I do not know what the problem is but I do not think is cooling. I ran all 3 Prime95 tests with the fans at the max speed and proccessor temperature was always below 30degC.

Thanks!

Thanks yowanvista.......I increased the speed of the fans and then ran Prime95 tests. Large FTTs tests failed. However, after I increased the speed of the fans, I never saw a BSOD again - the computer has been ON for 10 days or so with no BSOD at all. With the initial speed of the fans I had, I got a BSOD every 24 hours.

I guess some processor spec is failing marginally at 30degC. When the temperature is dropped somewhere below 20degC, it never fails. This is a marginal failure, but it makes the system not fully reliable.

Thanks for your help!
