Processor: Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz
Hard disk: Western Digital 1tb
memory: OCZ 4gb
video card: EVGA 8800gt
Windows 7 professional 64 bit

My computer randomly freezes every so often, and sometimes when I leave the computer idling for a while I will come back to find that it has crashed. I have been getting the occasional BSOD and have attached the file for the report for it.

I have no idea what is causing the crashes. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hi and welcome

This one is easy. memory corruption, probably caused by SPTD.SYS

Sptd.sys is a huge problem.

Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

Test your memory

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Let us know if they continue.

Thank you for your help Ken!

I used the SPTD uninstaller, but the strange thing is that I have never installed Daemon Tools or Alcohol on this computer.

I ran memtest86 a couple weeks ago when I noticed the freezing, and after about 8 passes it still had not found any problems with my RAM.

Hopefully removing sptd.sys will have solved the problem.

Thank you!

It's been bad tonight. my computer froze 3 times tonight. Two of the times I just hit the reset button as I have in the past, the other I left it for an hour before coming back to the computer to see no change so I finally hit the reset button again.

One thing that has happened on occasion after pressing the reset button is that the date and time is correct, but it reverts back to the year 2000. The last freeze, when I restarted the computer, when Windows was loading, it froze for about 30 seconds, could not move the mouse or anything, that has never happened before.

I've wondered if it was a video card issue, some other hardware issue or a software issue of some sort.

Twice in the last half hour my computer randomly just restarted. It didn't freeze, I was just online checking sports scores, and the next thing I know my computer has restarted itself. I have no idea what is wrong. It does not seem to be a heat issue, at least not that I can tell.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
