When you enable XMP, it should set the memory to the XMP value of the ram. Yours is 2400, but it also sets the 2400 timings. If you set the frequency back to 1333 with XMP enabled, it sounds like you have the XMP timings but a different frequency. What that means is that your timings are wrong for the frequency. Now, I'm saying that but haven't seen it, so I am just assuming based on what typically happens.

Your Motherboard is capable of running 2400MHz ram, but the memory controller is in the CPU. That is a pretty high frequency for that chipset. It would take an exceptional memory controller to run at that speed. For the most part, the i7's (at least in Ivy Bridge) were the only CPU with a memory controller capable of those speeds. In all honesty, I would not think that Memory controller would be capable of 2400 ram.
