Hi,

I am getting a BSOD on my system several times a week while in use. It seems pretty random to me when it happens. Note: I got similar BSOD's on my old system which had the same operating system (same exact copy), but completely different hardware. My new system which is less than 3 weeks old now, seems to have the same symptoms.

Running drivier verifier makes the BSOD occur every 2 hours when the system is idle.

System Info:
Windows 7 Professional x64
Full Retail
What is the age of system (hardware)? 3 weeks
What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 3 days

Thanks.

Hello scoutspeeder, welcome to Seven Forums, please Run Memtest86. Here is a tutorial, you may need to let it run overnight, this will ensure a good test. Post back the results.

EDIT: I also not that one of your INT33A0 is disabled. Any reason why you would have this device disabled? Considering you have 4 system drives, I think you might want to enable it. Go to device manager and and open your controllers list and enable it, then re-boot.

Also, update your BIOS, chipset, and SATA contoller here.

That is all for now. Turn off driver verifier to see how stable the system is.

I had this disabled because I think I incorrectly thought it was the Intel Graphics. After a google search, turns out this is a Intel Smart Connect device.
It does not have a driver, and shows up as "Unknown Device" in the Device Manager. Is this Smart Connect device important for a desktop computer?

I will run the Memtest86.

My chipset, and SATA drivers should already be up to date. I did that yesterday and still got a BSOD before I turned on Driver Verifier.

Yes, I know the BIOS hasn't been updated. I hadn't got around to that yet (need to find a USB stick and all that). I'll do that today.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, that device needs to have drivers installed for a desktop computer. It is imperative to the operation of your hard disk or SSD. It is the hard disk controller device, and it should be installed from the SATA section of your motherboard support site; the drivers are Intel based, as you suspected.

I'll leave you in James's more than capable hands. Just thought I would interject since he and I had this conversation about your thread earlier. :)

Wow. Thanks James, I think I've got it nailed down to a one bad Stick.

This is what I did:
-Uninstalled and reinstalled the chipset drivers, SATA drivers.
-Enabled the INT33A0 in Device Manager and installed the Intel Smart Connect Software, which made the "Unknown" go away.
-Reboot my machine.
-Starting preparing for BIOS updating. While doing that, I got a BSOD.
-Updated the BIOS successfully, rebooted.
-Went right into Memtest86+ testing.

Here's the results (in the order I ran them):

All 4 slots - FAIL 1
SN 55 - Slot A1 - Pass 7
SN 51 - Slot A2 - Pass 13
SN 54 - Slot B1 - Couldn't Boot
SN 54 - Slot B2 - FAIL 1
SN 54 - Slot A1 - FAIL 1
SN 51 - Slot B2 - Pass 1
SN 54 - Slot A2 - FAIL 1
SN 53 - Slot A2 - Pass 7
SN 51 - Slot B1 - Pass 7
SN 51, 53, 55 in Slots A1, A2, B1 - Pass 2 (Bad module out of the system)

Looks like SN 54 is a bad stick. I'm letting SN 53 go through some more passes now just to make sure.

EDIT: Also each of the FAIL I mention is on the first attempt always; the SN 54 never made it through a successful test.

EDIT2: Added additional testing

Congratulations scoutspeeder! Sounds like you may have it licked. Replace the RAM and recheck for stability. After you are happy, please feel free to mark the thread as solved.

The memory is under warranty (less than a month old), so I started the RMA process. It'll be a bit before they ship me a replacement I'm sure.

But no matter, the system has been very stable and I haven't had ANY problems all day while I've been using the computer with just the 3 out of 4 modules.

Thanks again for helping me with the problem.
