Hello,

I've experienced some issue with my PC recently and formatting it didn't help. Please find attached the required files.

The BSOD are essentially random, and sometimes when I power up the PC, it just doesn't startupt, staying stuck in the BIOS or something.

I have an Acer predator, win7 64 bits (OEM)

Thank you for your help !

Hello Nauyt and welcome to Sevenforums.

:ar:A few things we'll need

We appreciate your .zip file containing system information and health diagnoses, but we'll need your dump files in order to analyse your actual BSODs you're experiencing.

Your Minidump folder should be at the path C:\Windows\Minidump. If there's no files, make sure minidumps are enabled by -
Go to Start, then Run, then type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Startup and Recovery button
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes)
Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

Next time you'd experience a BSOD, a dump is supposed to be generated. When it's generated, wrap it up in a zip and upload it.

Thanks!
Frederik.

It's that .dmp file, right ?

It was directly saved in my windows folder (no minidump folder)

You can download it here : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/56898171/MEMORY.zip
it's about 100mo, zipped.

The dump you've uploaded is definitely corrupted. Have you enabled Small Minidump files, it's all in the little tutorial I've posted earlier. They should appear in /Minidumps after a few BSODs, with the enabled settings as mentioned.

Best Regards,
Frederik.

I did your small tutorial and waited for next crash. The PC crashes a few moment ago, but no dump file created in the folder minidump :/ Does it need more than one crash to start writing ?

The BSOD was speaking about the program win32k.sys

Naut,
First, carry out this procedure.

Each and every step thereof. Do not stray from the staight and narrow or surely you will go down the road of No Dumps.

[FONT=&quot]MEMORY DUMPS - REQUIREMENTS[/FONT]

Enable automatic management of the Paging file
WIN + PAUSE/BREAK key combo |
Advanced system settings (left-hand side) |
Advanced tab, Performance section, Settings |
Advanced tab, Virtual Memory section, Change |
checkmark Automatically manage paging file size for all drives |
OK | OK | OK

STARTUP AND RECOVERY SETTINGS
WIN + PAUSE/BREAK key combo |
Advanced system settings (left-hand side) |
Advanced
tab, Startup and Recovery section, Settings |
System Failure section | checkmark Write an Event to the system log
| uncheck
Automatically restart |

Under Write debugging information, select Small memory dump |
in the Small dump directory: box, enter %SystemRoot%\Minidump | OK

If Overwrite any existing file is checked, then:
Ø Under Write debugging information, select Kernel memory dump
Ø Uncheck Overwrite any existing file
Ø Under Write debugging information, select Small memory dump
Ø OK button
If you get a crazy message from Win 7 about your paging file being too small, then just ignore the message since we have already made sure that the paging file is set to be managed by Win 7.

ENABLE THE WINDOWS ERROR REPORTING SERVICE
WIN key | type SERVICES.MSC | ENTER |
Scroll down to Windows Error Reporting Service |
Rt-clk on Windows Error Reporting Service | Properties |
General
tab | for Startup type, choose Automatic |
In Service status, Start button (unless grayed out) | OK

ASSURE THAT CCLEANER IS NOT DELETING DUMPS
CCLEANER | Cleaner icon | Windows tab | System category |
Uncheck Memory Dumps
· WINDOWS ERROR REPORTING SERVICE must NOT be disabled!
· WIN | Services.msc | Enter
· Under Name, locate Windows Error Reporting Service
· If Status is not Started, then
Right-click on Windows Error Reporting Service |choose START
· If Startup Type is not Automatic, then
Right-click on Windows Error Reporting Service |
choose Properties | General tab |
set Startup type to Automatic
· Close Services.msc (I like to use ALT + F4)

After a crash, the minidump file will be in %SystemRoot%\Minidump
%SystemRoot% is generally C:\Windows

CCleaner is a tool that is useful in gathering info and also for cleaning out left over trash.
CCleaner is the number one program in its category.
CCleaner is the most frequently downloaded utility by a large margin.
CCleaner is one of the very, very few 3rd party products that all of us answering questions uses and recommends.

You carry out:
Code:
Run cmd.exe
enter following with will put a dmpinfo.txt on your desktop. Upload that file please:
wmic recoveros get /all /format:list > %userprofile%\desktop\dmpinfo.txt
as I stated, after you have configured the dump-related settings.

This is how we can be reassured that the settings are correctly configured.

All right, since I don't have CCleaner I'll skip the related part. Here is the result of last command

Look in: C:\Windows\Minidump

for your .dmp files

That's one of the pieces of info gleaned from that dmpinfo.txt file
