I have been getting BSODs when i play borderlands 2, battlefield 3 and a few other games, some times a few minutes in and other an hour or so in. At times the system will hang and the sound will get messed up and there will be glitches all over the screen and everything i try to open causes the system to hang and force close until i restart. Please help me solve this nuisance!

Update your ATI/AMD display driver.
You can get it from the link in our forum, http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-...alyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html#post17671, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

Have another look ....

Dont pay attention to the dxgmms1 thing, it is an OS component. It actually represents the graphics element, your display driver. It says something about the Video Memory thing. And, here it comes ....
Code:
Name : AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Adapter RAM : [COLOR=Red]1.00 GB[/COLOR] (1,073,741,824 bytes)
Is it enough for the newest resource hungry games? I doubt. Also, How old the GPU is?

After installing the latest display driver, stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Also perform a Video Memory Stress Test.

Let us know the results.

Thank you for the reply! i have the latest video card drivers installed, i downloaded them from the ATI/AMD site and re-installed them again, also did the same for the lycosa driver as its the most accurate driver. AS far as the Norton goes, should i just get rid of it and try out a different anti-virus?

Video card memory test came out good, no errors.

Video card stress test was very laggy, no artifacts but it seemed like the temperature went high very fast.
see attached picture for results.

Good point :D

Uninstall Norton and all Symentec products using Norton Removal tool. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner. MSE, cause it is most lightweight o the system and never causes a BSOD.

Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

As all the others are apparently OK, wish you best of luck with the antivirus swap :) Let us know how the computer works after that.

Ok so i completely removed norton and installed both of the ones you suggested and i managed to play Borderlands 2 for a good amount of time without any crashes. I will do some more testing and if i do run into another BSoD i will post the information up. Thank you for the reply and the recommendation, i can see somewhat of an improvement after i removed norton :)

Do you use Linksys AE3000? If so, update the driver.

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

And then enable Driver Verifier to monitor the drivers.
Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable
Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

   Information
Why Driver Verifier:
It puts a stress on the drivers, ans so it makes the unstable drivers crash. Hopefully the driver that crashes is recorded in the memory dump.

How Can we know that DV is enabled:
It will make the system bit of slow, laggy.

   Warning
Before enabling DV, make it sure that you have earlier System restore points made in your computer. You can check it easily by using CCleaner looking at Tools > System Restore.

If there is no points, make a System Restore Point manually before enabling DV.

   Tip

Let us know the results, with the subsequent crash dumps, if any.

It failed to record the crash dump.

Disable driver verifier. (If needed, boot into safe mode and disable it there)
Remove all the startup entries other than the antivirus.
Enable verifier again, make it sure that you are not checking any driver provided by "microsoft" and "unknown"

Hopefully this time we will get a crash dump.

Either the GPU or the motherboard is failing.

First replace the GPU. Use the onboard graphics; or if there is no onboard graphics use another GPU to test.

If all the same in those situations too, it is a failing mobo I doubt.

I dont really have a spare GPU to use, is there any other way i can check? Also i just ran 3d mark 11 and according to CPUID HWMonitor my gpu temperatures went as high as 66 °C, could that be the cause of the BSoD? Also could my set up be the issue? Restricted airflow?

you may try removing the GPU and using an ordinary pencil eraser, clean the gold pin contacts making sure to blow away any eraser debris. do this away from the PC. then reinstall it and be sure the power connectors and card are fully seated. Test the system now. Then...

Run this test, it may take some hours to complete.

RAM (memory):
This will require memtest on a bootable CD or USB stick.
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Yeah some RAM or slot is bad. If you get even 1 error, you can stop the test and proceed to the nest stick/slot in the test.

The settings are OK except for ECC Mode, disable that. Short for Error-Correcting Code memory, a type of memory that includes special circuitry for testing the accuracy of data as it passes in and out of memory. It is used mostly for servers and machines that must not fail, medical, scientific, etc.
