Hi, this looks like an excellent forum for help; it's nice to see constructive replies to people's problems, a credit to the experts here.

I'm dual booting Windows 7 on a system that is 100% reliable when running Vista.
I get BSOD when the system is idle, when the system is waiting at the logon screen and sometimes when using Media Player Classic or Firefox to watch video.

Example, yesterday the pc had a BSOD after it had been sitting idle at my desktop for about an hour, the system rebooted but I did not return to it; it had another BSOD within half-an-hour or so (while at the login screen) however, it then sat at the login screen for some 8 hours without BSODing.

I'm using "Bluescreen View" but I don't believe I have the skills to sort this one myself; can someone point me in the right direction please?

Many Thanks,
soup

Hi. On behalf of my colleagues and myself, thanks!

If overclocking anything in any way, set back to default factory values.

Which motherboard do you have? I can tell you where to get latest drivers related to it.

These are the older ones and need to be updated:
Code:
nvm62x32 nvm62x32.sys Fri Oct 17 17:00:39 2008
CLBStor CLBStor.SYS Thu Oct 25 22:38:49 2007
RTKVAC RTKVAC.SYS Thu Jun 18 15:36:37 2009

Ok torrentg, a million thanks for your advice.
I’ve flashed the bios to the latest version.
I physically removed CLBStor.sys
I did a manual update of the audio driver (device manager reported I was up to date so I backed up RTKVAC.SYS in the system32/drivers folder and replaced it from the downloaded file you advised. It now reports driver 6.0.1.6305 19/06/2009).
I hope that’s solved my problem and many thanks for your knowledge and the speed you replied to me.
Indebted,

Best of luck to ya!

Keep us updated how things seem to be going either way.

In the future, you can install from the device manager like this:

Right click on the device you're updating - Update driver software. Browse my computer. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click the .inf from the new driver folder. Hit ok. Hit next.

Hi again torrentg,
You said keep us updated.
Old drivers replaced last Monday morning, all was good for 4 days, I used the pc lots, I thought it was sorted then on Thursday evening it crashed again. However, this time I understood the message as the BSOD named nvm62x32.sys as the culprit, a driver you'd flagged as a problem yourself. Also, as you pointed out, my nforce4 board is no longer supported.
I downloaded some nforce7 drivers (I think they were) and installed the Ethernet driver, Windows said it didn't think the drivers would run my hardware but I installed anyway.
No BSOD since then and I've worked the pc and network card hard, so looking good.
A million thanks for your advice yet again.

Hi and welcome
This crash was probably caused by ataport.sys I suspect anther issue is but having only 1 DMP I cannot be sure. THe issue I susppect is either heat or ram.

I would
download memtestx86 andrun it for several hours at least (overnight preferred)
update the driver involved
run a system file check to verifu (and fix) your system files
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

Good luck

Hi soup

Ataport.sys is part of an IDE HD driver. It might be part of a BIOS upgrade, or should be availible from the mobo manufacturer.

Dont know if you are 32bit or 64

Let me know if you need help with it

I will take a peek at the latest DMPS just in case

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0296cb44, memory referenced
Arg2: 0000001f, IRQL
Arg3: 00000000, bitfield :
    bit 0 : value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
bit 3 : value 0 = not an execute operation, 1 = execute operation (only on chips which support this level of status)
Arg4: 828e210e, address which referenced memory

Hi Again Zigzag,
It's an Abit nforce4 mobo, ataport.sys is not part of the driver package as far as I'm aware. It's also no longer supported. Bios is up to date, flashed last week.
I downloaded the drivers for the Nvidia nforce7 board to update the nvm62x32.sys driver which went ok.
Windows 7 32 bit.
Thanks Again,
soup

Hi Again,
1.[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Ran memtest86 for just under 11 hours, 8 passes, no errors.
2.[FONT=&quot] [/FONT]Verified system files, no problems.
Still can’t find a download to update ataport.sys, can anybody advise where I might find it or what package it might come in please?
Thanks,
Soup

Hi

I have a same problem with Asus A8N-E on nforce4 (with dual opteron 185, 4gb memory). Also worked pefect under Windows Vista x64 and also has random BSODs in Windows 7 x64. I did almost everything - removed all third-party software (at least the one with drivers), installed the latest nvidia built-in network controller driver, installed SATA drivers from Vista x64, changed audio and video cards, moved the system from PATA IDE onto SATA (it means, I have no any pata devices in my system) - thought may be ATA driver is responsible for the problems (NVIDIA doen't update it for years and you have to use the built-in one), run memtest86 for more than 12 hours (of course, there was no any problems), watched for the temperature.

Nothing helps. A system just crashes after 12-24 hours of an uptime. BSOD is ALWAYS different (the last one - Pool_corruption). On two other computers (notebooks, based on intel chipsets) Win7 runs perfectly, without any single glitch.

It looks like, that Win7 x64 is simply incapable to run on NFORCE4 motherboards. Or, at least on some of them. Now I have to decide, should I go back on Windows Vista, install Linux (not really the option for a home pc) or get a new motherboard (this involves getting of new cpu, memory, psu and cooler).
