Random BSOD

I'm a Intel person. I do it in this fashion. CPU volts manually set and always monitor temps. Any settings I change I always watch the temps. I keep the CPU volts (vcore) below max. If need be I will bump up the vcore to make things work as long as the temps stay in the range where I want them. Watching the temps and vcore allows me to run all day every day at 4.2 and ram at 1700 cool. If you control the vcore and temps you won't make a toaster while you are tinkering.

Going to stick with the 8GB's for now, as everything seems to be running fine.

Downloaded HW monitor this morning - noticed when I left BIOS settings on auto, my CPU VCore was going over 1.43 at times (.850-1.425V per AMD). I now have set it at max of 1.3V (update: running at 1.175 and no problems) and found another "surprising" benefit...CPU runs cooler. Was at 49 degrees earlier, when running at 1.368v, now at 1.28V and maintaining around 45 degrees. Planning to use OCT, monitor temps (max is 62) and go from there. Lesson learned - AUTO is not always the best setting. As a side note - any benefit to dropping voltage even more, other than longevity? No plans to overclock.

Learned quite a bit about AMD/BIOS/RAM settings, etc., this go around...hopefully will make things a little easier next time (or make my problems that much harder to solve! :cry:).

If I have another BSOD, will repost. At this time, though, I would consider problem solved!

Do you have "Cool'n'Quiet" enabled in BIOS?
This function let's the CPU frequency and Voltage adjust according to the amount of power required.
When you are browsing the internet or other low power required situations your CPU will lower the frequency and voltage, when you need full power it will give you full power, max frequency and voltage.

If you take the CPU voltage off of 'Auto' and set a voltage, it will run at that voltage all the time. If you set the CPU voltage to 1.175v, it will run fine when doing things that don't require a lot of power but, when more power is needed it will crash.
If you need/want to adjust the CPU voltage while using "Cool'n'Quiet" use 'CPU Offset Voltage' this will allow the CPU to adjust frequency and voltage as needed.

If your CPU core temps are at 45-49°C at idle then you need to check the CPU cooler and thermal paste. AMD CPU normally run very cool, at idle they should be a little above room temperature, 30-32°C.

Misunderstood the "manual" setting of CPU voltage. My apologies.

CPU normally sits around 36-38 degrees for me and has since original install. But my voltage always seems to run high, as well, at times staying around 1.3-1.4, which seems high. Should have some time to get in the case over the next couple of days and check cooler/thermal paste. Today, have primarily been surfing and CPU temp has not exceeded 39 degrees.

AMD CPUs usually run very cool, even with higher CPU voltages, 1.3-1.4v is not uncommon.
That's a little high temps for surfing, it's not that bad but, could be much better.
