Greetings,

Joined the forum to try and sort the BSODs my laptop keeps having with increasing regularity. I have done most of the basics, I think, updated drivers & firmware, ran hard drive & memory tests, but they keep happening. Have attached the file from SF Diagnostics and would appreciate any guidance or insight you can provide. Thanks.

Oksomoto you say you have done all the drivers and everything I have looked at seems to point the finger at the graphics so could you run this update again Drivers | GeForce and see if it does anything.

By the way could you let us now what the temps are in your machine please run this to find them and please post back what they are

Thanks for the response ICit2lol. I was suspecting the graphics card as well and had previously updated the driver. The laptop would then lock up (no BSOD) when it would hibernate or go to sleep and then not come back up, so I would then have to reboot it. I then rolled back the driver and that seemed to correct the problem for awhile, but the BSOD would still occur. So I recently went ahead (in the last month) and updated it again.

I've attached the driver details along with the Speccy temps. Thanks for the help.

Ok mate the temps look not bad the CPU is a tad warm for my liking but notverging on wrecking it - if this is at idle, because the Tcase on that processor is 100C anyway.

I ma beginning to think maybe the GPU chip is faulty:(

I suppose that would explain the occasional blank screen flickers and message along the lines that the Nvidia card/driver had stopped responding and restarted. :sarc:

Anything else to try besides replacement?

Thanks again for the help.

Well my friend as this is a laptop replacing the graphics chip is not reallyan option it is unless I am very mistaken it is attached to a small boardthat is soldered to the board and frankly not a job I would attempt.

However having said that I have had a digaround and it looks like it just might be replaceable in my pic on a Toshibaspecific repair site I use it shows a socket which if I am not mistaken looksto have the CPU and GPU on a the same removable card. But this is the model before yours I cannot access the 505 but it would not be that different.

I found this in another Google sweep too Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q870 GPU upgrade

I think it would be beneficial for you to contact Toshiba to make sure. But they are very slow at responding and it is always a good idea to quote the PART NO as per my pic too as that denotes where it was made and where it was intended to be sold.

Cheers Mate. I was obviously under the false impression that it was still a card I could switch out. Oh well, will probably not get that ambitious to attempt the replacement now. Thanks for the info.

Well it is a daunting task if you have not done it before and leave one thing undone and it means taking it apart again but I have got used to it now and I will still keep having a dig around. But will be offline for most of today - my partner has some dental surgery to be done:eek:
