I work at a university and my IT guy scared me to the point that i bought a 20 buck program at office depot. I've had virus's crawl on my thumb drive at work I thought I would put the same program they run there on my comp. If you say I'm covered with out I'll believe take your word for it.
As long as you have MSE installed, you are protected.
Any drive, being it usb or whatever that is taken to another machine should always be checked. Simply when you connect a device that was loaned out or that you get from someone else, then in Windows Explorer right-click on the device and choose Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials.
