Random BSODs mainly while gaming, occasionally on desktop

Hi, had this problem for a few months now, either BSODs or crash to desktop while gaming (consistently will crash when gaming but could be after 10 mins or 2 hours. Doesn't need user input, will eventually crash if left alone), or performing multiple tasks in Windows (might be browsing on Chrome, using Picasa, Steam, Office etc.) Occasionally will BSOD immediately after Windows login.

Steps taken so far, without success (not necessarily in this order!):

- New system drive (SSD) and clean Windows 7 HP 64bit install
- Complete uninstall (using driver sweeper) and reinstall of latest graphics / audio drivers
- Remove / reseat graphics card / RAM and cleared all crap out of fans / filters etc
- Different graphics card (Borrowed ATI vs my Nvidia so completely different drivers)
- Memtest ran without issue for 18 hours
- Prime95 ran for <10mins before BSOD
- Monitored temps during gaming of GPU (sits at about 75c) and CPU (sits around 50c). Nothing that seems excessive, or big spikes before a BSOD
- Disabled all background software (AV, google drive, backup software etc) / unnecessary drivers while gaming
- Updated BIOS to latest from manufacturers website (version is now F4a, at time of minidumps was F2)

I configured minidumps and tried analysing the results without any long term success. Unfortunately my system now also seems to have stopped producing minidumps - the options are enabled, >15gb free on dump drive, error service enable but nothing works, I only get event 41 Kernel-Power error.

I do still have some minidumps produced back in Feb. My system hasn't changed significantly since then and the symptoms are the same, so I'd appreciate if someone could take a look.

Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt!KiQueueReadyThread+fb )

Usual causes:  Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility

Are you overclocking? If so please reset the BIOS back to defaults - How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

Run Driver Verifier to scan for any corrupted drivers which may be causing problems, this program works by running various stress tests on drivers, in order to produce a BSOD which will locate the driver; run for least 24 hours:

Update your System Specifications with Speccy, and then copy this information into your System Specifications: Go to your UserCP, and then select Edit System Spec in the left pane. Are you overclocking? If so please reset the BIOS back to defaults

I have reset BIOS to 'Optimized Defaults' which sets the multiplier on the CPU to 8.5X as it is now. I have previously tried changing the multiplier to 6X so the CPU runs at 2Ghz, but the crashes still happened. There is a 'Failsafe Defaults' option the BIOS so I'll give it a go.

I've updated my specs, will run the scans and post back results.

OK so Malwarebytes and MSSE didn't find anything.

I've enabled driver verifier but I'm not sure how useful it will be because the system isn't producing minidumps when it crashes. I've attached a screenshot of the minidump settings window to confirm, windows error reporting services is started and I have 19GB free on C:. Any ideas?

The only way I can get it to consistently crash is to play a game. Longest I've been able to play without a reboot recently is 35 mins. It can happen on the desktop though, even when unattended I'll come back to find it rebooted.

This is actually the second attempt at writing this response as it BSOD'd first time round! Only Chrome, Steam and Excel were running in the foreground at the time.

I currently have driver verifier enabled but I'm still not getting any post BSOD dumps in C:\Windows\Minidump

My system now meets all the criteria laid out in the guide, but 3 BSODs later and no dumps. I'll be keeping an eye on the folder anyway in case any appear.

As an aside, I set Prime95 running again this morning and the worker threads all finished reporting rounding errors.

Is it time to go shopping yet?

It seems your CPU might be faulty, does it still have warranty?

Unfortunately no, I bought the system in 2008 and the warranty was 3 years. I think I may just have to accept it's upgrade time. If it starts producing minidumps I'll post them back here.

Welcome, and I think it will be time to upgrade, it's quite old anyway so it would best to upgrade
