Random BSODs

Hey guys, I don't know if it was a good idea to continue this thread, but I have a similar issue. I'm getting BSODs since I have the laptop randomly with random errorcodes. I don't have any antivirus installed, i have all the latest updates on audio and video. I have some minidumps attached, but I couldn't post the old ones as I lost them due to win reinstall. They were mostly related to the Nvidia driver "nvlddmkm.sys", I already posted them on other forum, but they couldn't find the cure for the problem I had some older video driver initially and I got the BSODs while playing, but quite rarely, it's not caused by overheat or dust, I'm sure, I have been testing RAM with memtest and VRAM with OCCT, no problems found. As I enabled the driver verifier as Reventon suggested, I couldn't even start windows, I was getting BSODs when the win was about to start. Then went to safe mode and reset the verifier so that only nvlddmkm.sys was tested, it crashed again. So i'm almost sure the problem is with that. Any suggestion??

I have G60JX aswell on win 7 x64.

Welcome!

It does appear to be graphics related. Do you have another video card you can try? Perhaps borrow one from a friend, or another computer.

Also, try a video card stress test. See this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html

Be sure to report the temperature it reaches.

hi, sorry about the wrong place to post
actually, BSODs are quite rare, but they happen time to time and they are really annoying as I know there's something wrong... I'm playing metro 2033 on very high and it's stable atm and temp doesn't go higher than 85C (GPU) and that's perfectly normal. Ok I'll try this Furmark and see what I get. I'm almost certain it's not hardware related, as I've been using my GPU for fractal rendering with CUDA for hours and was stable, played games aswell.
I don't know why you ask if I have other videocard? I have an older PC with 7300GT, and that works well. But this is like a month old laptop...

ok i've ran the test and it was running smoothly, the temp goes up from 54 to 85 and the big fan turns on and pushes the temp back to 82 and it stays there forever. The funny thing is that I hear the sound of the gpu if i listen closely. When the shape in furmark rotates so that I only see the outer ring the fps goes up to like 90 fps and the pitch also gets higher, as it rotates back to a more complex form the pitch of the sound drops down again together with the fps ~40. Is this normal?

As long as you aren't seeing artifacts or distortion, you should be good.

Sorry, I didn't realize you had a laptop. Graphics cards are not as easy to change in them.

Let me try to explain the output I posted. Most of the dumps point to nvlddmkm.sys as the probable cause, which is the nVidia graphics driver. What I didn't post was the date:

That is the latest released version of that driver, so I haven't seen any BSODs caused by it. I have eliminated a driver problem as a cause in my mind.

One BSOD is blamed on the DirectX part of your card, also pointing to hardware or driver.

One dump blames iaStor.sys as the cause, which is your Intel hard drive controller driver. Is is relatively old:

I would look on your computer manufacturer's site for an updated version, but it really sounds as if the GFX card is the issue.

I hate to say this, but your best route may be to take the computer into the PC shop and have them test/replace your video card.

Well in Romania I'd like to avoid that route if it's possible, i'd like to make sure that it's a hardware problem before sending it back to get it fixed.

The funny thing is that, I've been stressing my VGA all day long with programs, hardcore games (Metro 2033, Shift) and nothing bad happened. It just popped into my mind, that in Starcraft II, I was still getting the message that my vga card isn't supported, may that be a cause to get BSOD???

Oh wait, was that the last dump with the iastor.sys? it's the one with the d1 error code right? I think I got that one somewhere when I was using the driver verifier

No, the D1 was not a verifier enabled one. I'd like to mark that one off as either an unrelated one, or an inaccuracy by the debugger.

Hi,
Jonathan is right when he suspect your graphic card issue. You can try to re-install the driver even though I don't expect much for the outcome. When upgrading your graphic driver you MUST remove all traces of the current driver. In order to do that we recommend using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

When it is removed then download and install the fresh copy.

I think if your computer is still under warranty, please ship it to manufacture.

I don't know how but everything what I've ordered from internet were always malfunctioning... How am I so cursed.. hilarious...
