Hey everyone, Jason here,

My computer specs:
windows 7 ultimate x64 SP1 OEM
i7 950
asus sabertooth x58 mobo
2x 4gb corsair ram
nvidia 560 ti (factory overclock)
western digital 1tb hdd

A couple of days after getting my computer I started getting random BSODs, they were only on the screen for an instant before the computer restarted (so I never get to see the error). They occured while doing all sorts of things:
- copying files
- watching youtube
- word processing
- using utorrent
- plugging in iphone and using itunes

After a few days I found this GTX 560 Ti: Having issues or not? - NVIDIA Forums
Lots of factory overclocked cards had problems. I tried increasing the voltage via MSI afterburner and it helped. The computer ran crash free for about 5 days before a random BSOD (Previously it was daily). In the past week the BSODs are getting more frequent.
=[

Ok I will test with the tool and get back to you =]
Running OCCT now, nah I didn't use Ccleaner and can't think of any systems cleaners I have. I have run avast antivirus and ad aware, would they have deleted the files?

Note that running two or more antivirus programs at the same time can cause conflicts at the system level and possibly BSODs. Remove Ad Aware :)

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
** Until a .dmp file is generated, the Minidump folder may not exist.**

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery... Settings.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box.
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as%systemroot%\Minidump.
*OK.
Reboot if changes have been made.

Hey DeanP,

So I did as you instructed so I would get something to write in the minidump folder. A BSOD just occurred and I waited 1 hour, it was stuck on the blue screen and just said something like initializing minidump with a bunch of hex as the error. I wrote down the hex if that's useful?
0x00000000000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA800919A00, 0xFFFFFA8009129CE0, 0xFFFFF800033CCDB0)
So I figure it's either going to be done within an hour or not done, and so hit the reset button and sure enough, no minidump folder.

I suppose if there's nothing new to gather from this I will try format and buy a new graphics card even.

Do you have or can you borrow another graphics card to test with?

If possible run another graphics card to confirm/rule out the card.

So after running it for a while I got one BSOD with no cause (like before).

Then I get another BSOD, but this time with a cause (hooray!)

The gist of it:

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007A (0xFFFFF6FC40006EA8, 0XFFFFFFFFC000009D, 0X00000000B1C78860, 0XFFFFF88000DD59AC)

*** SCSIPORT.SYS - Address FFFFF88000DD59AC base at FFFFF88000DBF000, DateStamp 4ce7a419

I take a look, but nothing is ever written to minidump, there's actually not even a minidump folder and i followed the instructions earlier on how to set it up.

Thanks for the update.

Let us know if you get any BSoDs.

Try running through the instructions again, will help if we get these files.
Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

Was your computer in Sleep or Hibernate?

STOP 0x7a error code, the requested page of kernel data from the paging file could not be read into memory.

Run a Disk Check on your drive, follow the instructions in the tutorial.

Then D/L and run Western Digital Lifeguard – Quick Test and Extended Test.
Let us know the results.

My computer wasn't on sleep or hibernate, the power setting is
sleep: never
hibernate: never
turn off hdd: 20mins

I have attached my results.

jcgriff2 tests: don't know the result

perfmon results: don't know how to interpret

disk check: seemed to pass

WD lifeguard test:
- quick: passed
- extended: gets to about 2/3 of the way, then starts spamming abort and restarts the test by itself. quickly upon restart it stops itself and has this:
"Test result: FAIL
Test error code: 08-Too many bad sectors detected"

I suppose I'm in need of a new HDD?
Bad sectors pretty much means I shouldn't use this HDD anymore right?

Yes, you need a new HDD.

Get any data you want to save copied off of it as soon as you can.

It may last for a 'little while' or may never work again.

Let us know your progress.

Do you have any image backups?
If you don't, try Macrium Reflect, it is very good and free.
You can image the entire HDD, some data may be corrupted already but, hopefully you can save most of it.
