Random Crashes on Windows 7 64-bit reinstall

I reinstalled Windows 7 64-bit on my computer (HP p6510f) about a month ago. All went well for about a month. But now I get these random crashes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to them. Happens when I surf the net, listen to music or play a game. The computer usual runs well for several hours to a day, then WHAM-O! The computer freezes up and I have to re-boot.

I don't get the BSOD and I'm always able to re-boot quickly. What troubleshooting steps should I take? I hope there is a fix to this because I'm getting pretty frustrated over this computer I've only had for a couple of years.

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

HP has the worst load of crapware and unneeded utilities which have better versions built into Win7, so most tech enthusiasts won't run the factory preinstall but wipe the HD to get the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Until then I'd also Clean Up Factory Bloatware especially establishing a Clean Boot, checking for damaged System files.

Just ran sfc /scannow and got the following:

Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find and integrity violations.

Is it time for me to punt and get a new hard drive? I can't believe that a re-install of Windows 7 a month old can get this corrupted.....

We need to move your thread to Crashes forum to get the BSOD dump read to find out for sure. There isn't enough now to point to the HD unless you ran the tests on it from the Troubleshooting tutorial.

You could also follow these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to see if something about your reinstall caused problems.

Ran the short and long test for the hard drive (Seagate) using the manufacturers own test: SeaTools for Windows. Passed both times......

Had another crash after I did the hard drive diagnostics and scans. Guess I'll try the memory testing before I punt and install a clean version of Windows 7.

My events log seem to show quite a few NFTS errors leading up to the crashes:

The errors couldn't be more clear that you have dire problems with the disk and what to do about them.

Well, the prognosis is pretty grim. I have gotten these messages even after I ran chkdisk. The only sure fire remedy from my research on Google is to re-format the hard drive and install a clean version of Windows 7.

I'm going to attempt a repair installation of Windows 7 and see if that works. My data is backed up already on an external hard drive. Nothing to lose with attempting the short cut.

Then in addition to running Disk Check again, run the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan to get a prognosis on the HD.

If it repairs anything run Disk Check again.
