2-3 months ago, i built my very first computer. Everything was fine, i made sure to secure all the plugs. I make sure that everything has plenty of room and has sufficient air flow. But starting 2-3 days ago, I have been getting complete system lock ups. Every time it's locked up has been while playing a game. Now I've been doing as much research as possible and its come to the point where I'm just getting frustrated. Wondering if anyone could help me out and point me in the right direction.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x86(32-bit)
- the original installed OS on the system? Yes
- an OEM or full retail version? - Full retail

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 2-3 months old, if that.
- What is the age of OS installation - No older then the computer it's self.

Hi,
When your playing does your graphics card get sufficient cooling? You said your computer only locks up in game play, does it ever freeze on intense software? (HD video editing, high resolution photo editing...)
It could be driver issues. Is your ram, gpu or cpu oc'ed?

Please fill out your system specs so people can see what hardware your dealing with.

Everything literally just stops. Whatever the image is on the screen freezes, including the cursor. I haven't had sound on when this happens, so i'm not sure if the sound freezes too or not.

Intel Gigabit CT (PCIE NIC) and Thinkpad T61p,
There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of this.

Ken

Im running the RAM test at the moment.
I'll try updating the BIOs afterwards.
Do you really think the PSU could be bad? I mean its ran fine since i bought it and its almost brand new.

@Zigzag, im looking through the log right now, i see two recent cases, where the game has stop responded and shut down. This was different from the normal lock ups, this lock up seemed to be the game only and didn't require a complete reboot. Here's one of the logs that caused the game to lock up.

@Prof, Yes i understand this. What im asking, is could a PSU really just die out of the blue? Im good about keeping it dust free.

Yes it depends on the quality of the psu. If its a cheap psu it is more likely to fail than a high quality psu. I have a ocz 700 watts to make sure it is not likely to fail or make sure I have enough power to power current parts as well as future parts.

But am sure the problem is the gpu on your system

Okay, i've filled out the system specs. I ran a stress test on the graphics card using FurMark. It ran for awhile and topped out at 70 Celsius.
