Random Freezes

G'Day All,

I went hunting for a Windows 7 forum and ended up here, so hopefully I can settle in nicely :)

I've just downloaded and installed Windows 7 7068 (32-bit) on my main PC and I've been having a pretty major issue... I start up and after a few minutes the computer will just freeze. I can leave it at the desktop for 10 minutes or play a game for 5 minutes, whatever I do, after a random period of time it'll just stop.

The download/cd is fine as I've got it on my laptop running fine...
There are no viruses as I've checked everything with different computers and scanners...

I've downloaded as many drivers as I can find that are for Windows 7, the ones that weren't I got Windows Vista drivers...

Oh, to elaborate, I've searched and nothing here helps, I can install fresh with all defaults and it'll freeze... I can install fresh with new drivers, it'll freeze... I can install fresh and load up games and applications, it'll freeze. In addition, safe mode freezes! And all other operating systems work, I haven't had any problems with previous builds of Windows 7 and Vista/XP still works fine, there's just something about 7068...

Anyone got any ideas?

I had freezing issue too, but sometimes after hours of system success run. So, I installed 7057 about 2 hours ago and no crash, hope it will not come. I think, it's 7068 problem, because I never met it before.

Do you feel like listing all your Hardware ShaWn? I'm pretty sure it's a hardware incompatibility with 7068, perhaps Microsoft forgot a driver or something :(

Specify your configuration, I have notebook Asus F3T AP008 (Turion X2, nForce430, 2GB RAM, GeForce go7600). I tried different chipset, graphic drivers and no result. Hardware incompatibility is possible, but no idea why... Maybe some major bug in windows core.

I hate to tell you but it could be a coincidence and your hardware fans might have started malfunctioning and causing overheating.

Yes, you didn't have it with other OSes, but it could (trust me, it could) have started coincidencially now.

Enter your bios and check CPU temperatures...
Anything above 55-60 C is dangerous, it means your CPU fan is malfuctioning.

Give it a try and let us know

Clean install... And I don't think, it's overheating in my case, it freezes randomly, even in windows standby.

Try restarting your computer. Enter the system BIOS by pressing Esc, F2, or Del (see screen for details of which key to press). If you have overclocked, restore the BIOS defaults (see your motherboard manual). Goto the hardware monitoring tab. Leave it there for a while. Make a note of the various voltages, temperatures and fan speeds. What happens to the voltages when you insert a CD?

Nope, I've tried going BACK to Vista after 7068 and everything is fine. In addition, I checked my BIOS and everything is running at a nice 28 C :)

Clean install

I have not overclocked, I've tried resetting defaults and voltages are fine... I'm pretty sure it's not my physical hardware, but an issue with the particular build, hardware is as follows (if it's relevant)

Gigabyte P35-DS3
4GB RAM (Forgot brand and specifics)
eVGA 8800GTX
Intel Core2 QUAD Q6600

Bios reflashed to newest version, default settings=no result... I'm sure, that's something wrong with drivers, but it's hard to find which, because it's totally random. In 7057 i have no crash up to now.

Frozen news: After 12 hours with 7057 no crash appeared... Problem is 1OO% wherever in 7068, that build is big frozen building (like iglu). It seems they're closer to final version :-D

It's hard to say for sure but usually random freeze ups are related to bad Ram or low voltage or settings. Or the memory controller voltages being too low such as the northbridge. Or you might just have a bad copy or bad burn of 7068. The 7068 is working perfectly fine for me.
