Random house webster's unabridged dictionary 2.1

My RANDOM HOUSE WEBSTER'S UNABRIDGED DICTIONARY 2.1 worked flawlessly for 3 months. The last month, it has only worked if I uninstall and reinstall it, then it works only once. Subsequent useage result in message: "RHUDWIN caused a General Protection Fault in module RHUDWIN.EXE at 0001:6308".

Any idea how to keep it operational?

I have tried later versions, but they all seem hobbled in some fashion.

I have a feeling this is 16 bit software. Have you tried running it in DosBox?

I realize this is a very old thread but just in case anyone else is also looking for the answer, here is the solution.

The problem occurs when you maximize the window and then close the program. There is something wrong with the program's ability to start up maximized in modern Windows. You can repair the problem by opening the file C:\WINDOWS\RHUDWIN.INI and removing the line that spells "max=1".

Don't worry about deleting too much because the program seems to generate whatever is missing from the file.
