Random Internet Issues

I'm having random issues with my Internet, sometimes I connect fine and then about half the time, I have no connection at all. I try ip config/release ip config/renew

Sometimes that works and sometimes nothing works. This happened with Windows 7 RC too, I'm shocked Microsoft would release Windows 7 lie this. I use Linux most of the time because Windows 7 is to unreliable. My internet works 100% of the time with Linux.

What seems to be the problem here?

I would start off by making sure all the drivers on your gigabyte board are updated. There are some very recent updates for Windows 7 and your motherboard.

You might also need to update the firmware of your router.

Oh sorry I should have mentioned I just used Driver Agent to find out what drivers needed to be updated, I installed my latest board drivers and thought it might fix the issue and as soon as I restarted my pc I had the same issue no Internet.

I'm not up on those driver agents, don't trust them. Always best to go straight to the source.

The second option still remains. Router firmware updates have already worked many times to get the network connected with Windows 7. I'm not sure which router you have.

Actually I only use the Driver Agent to detect what drivers are out of date then I use the Gygabyte site to download them, but actually the Driver Agent is an official program of Gygabyte, if you look on there site at any drivers they have an option to download using Driver Agent .

Hmm, I have a Linksys Wireless G 2.4 ghs Router.

I've never actually downlaoded ( or installed ) a driver for my routers, I kinda assumed they didn't need it or it was automatic. I'm not actually Wireless just plugged into the router.

If you can post the exact model of your Linksys router I can check the compatablity page to see if it supports Windows 7. Firmware updates have been required in many cases.

The version V5 is not listed as a supported model for Windows 7. There have been many problems with your router connecting with Windows 7. If your router is not on the supported list it's very likely that it won't work with Windows 7. The last update for your version was 7/7/09 and shows no support for Windows 7. In fact I would have to mark this as solved because your router is no doubt the problem.

I managed to download it ok, but Now I have no idea what to do with it , it's just a bin file, no automatic installer or anything.

Just go to the router set up page and look for the firmware update tab. Although they show no Windows 7 support it might be worth a try. Didn't work for the last guy though as you can see.

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Use admin for both Username & Password...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful" After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".

Now reset your Gateway :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your Gateway, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your Gateway...
