I recently found out that desktop program Serious Samurize doesn't work on win7. I thought that oh well, win7 has so many gadgets i don't need ol' Sammy.

Thing is, I can't find a suitable replacement. I used Sammy for showing me random quotes and facts on desktop changing every 5min. Just plain text with customizable size font, color, shadow. Simple. All the text is taken from a .txt file in which every quote/fact is separated with tags.

The txt file itself looked a mess inside, but all worked well.

So, my question is: is there a gadget like this or maybe some awesome programmer could make me one (a)?

Dont know of a gadget of that nature, but WinPatrol is even better. It is a program that sits quitely and at preset intervals Scotty the dog will look for changes. If you leave your speakers on, you will hear him bark. If he finds changes, you are notified and you can get them remove through Scotty. It is great as used as and additional anti virus tool. It is free.

Did you ever find a quote gadget?

I too had a great quote file. It was called sage.exe and it was what in the olden days was called a tsr. It was shareware that used to beg for $10. I'd have gladly sent them $10, but the phone number and address were invalid when I first got the program.

Anyway, it has been on every pc I have ever owned since window 3.1. It worked fine right up to winxp. But, it won't work on Windows 7 64bit.

I've tried all the compatibility modes to no avail.

The program picked a random quote from a quote file called sage.dat, which was a simple text file with form quote - attribution
You could position it anywhere on your screen, ctrl+a to add new quotes, ctrl+f to find a quote, set the font and colour, and get a new quote every n minutes, or by clicking on the quote.

I loved my quote file, but it is now defunct.
What can I replace it with?
