Random temporary freezing

I'm on a Sony Vaio VGN-NR10E and ever since I installed windows 7, I keep getting random freezing that lasts for about a minute. Some times it's just one programme, usually VLC player or Firefox, and sometimes it's every single programme running.

When looking at the Event viewer, the most common problem is an atapi problem with the error code 11.

I thought that maybe updating the BIOS or driver would help, but sony haven't published any windows 7 updates for my model.

Please help because it's driving me crazy!

Hi.

You can update to that latest video driver using this link.

If that doesn't help, then look up which chipset the laptop has and let us know about it.

Alright. Ya. Visit Intel's website and install an update they have for it, if they do.

lol alright....then type system information in the start menu. Then hit enter.

On the screen that pops up, use ctrl+s to save.

Then rar or zip the file and attach to a post using the paperclip. I'll have a look for anything funky.

Oh yeah. We could fix this one.

In the start menu, go to all programs then startup folder. Delete:

Logitech. Product Registration
OneNote 2007 Screen Clipper and Launcher
Dropbox <<<you coudl leave this if you actually use it

Type regedit in the start menu search box, then hit enter. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
then delete:

IgfxTray
HotKeyCmds
Persistence
SunJavaUpdateSched
Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
Adobe ARM
Quicktime Task

Then go back to the start menu search box and type cmd.exe

Copy and paste these lines one by one and hit enter after each:

“%PROGRAMFILES%\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe” -remove

regsvr32 /u “%PROGRAMFILES%\Bonjour\mdnsNSP.dll”

Then reboot. When back at desktop, go to Program Files folder and delete Bonjour folder inside.

You have a mass storage controller with no driver too. If you aren't using anything with it, open the device manager and look for the yellow exclamation point. Right click on it and choose disable.

Let us know how it is after these changes and enjoy.

Got as far as typing

“%PROGRAMFILES%\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe” -remove

into the cmd.exe and it says;

The file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

Do I just carry on?

You don't have to type it. Copy and paste from my post. If you're using x64, it's different commands.

Windows 7 Install Freezing at “Starting Windows” Animation

May 4th, 2009 | by Jeff Fitzsimons | Windows 7 was very troublesome to install on my system. My system specifications:
  • Motherboard: Biostar TF8200 A2+ (nVidia chipset)
  • Processor: AMD 4080e Athlon 64 x2 (45W version)
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Optical: Sony/NEC SATA DVD-RW
  • Hard Disk: Seagate SATA 320GB, 7200RPM
Installation would hang at the “Starting Windows” logo. By pressing F8 when the installer first loaded, and selecting “Safe Mode With Command Prompt”, I was able to see that it was hanging after loading DISK.SYS.
I experimented with SATA and AHCPI modes. I replaced the old PATA/IDE DVD-ROM drive with a new SATA one. I tried removing one of my 2GB memory sticks. I tried both the x64 and x86 versions. None of these changes made any difference whatsoever
In the end, the only thing that worked was to turn off all motherboard accessories. I believe I only needed to turn off the USB 2.0 controller, but to be safe I turned off all USB, audio, parallel port, floppy drive, etc.

Please help because it's driving me crazy!

Hi there, I have the same laptop and I'm also having this problem, any advice? Did you solve it?
