Hi Ive been experiencing random system hangs in which the hdd light stays constantly lit for 10sec to 5 min and then unfreezes and completes all tasks as if nothing were wrong. PC was built in october and ran fine till about mid march when all of a sudden this behavior started.

Please try this to see if there's anything hogging your resources:
Task Manager:
Also, you can monitor the system for excessive resource consumption. To do this, open up Task Manager by right clicking on the Task Bar.
Then select the Processes tab.
Then select the "Show processes from all users" button (in the lower left)
Then select the View menu item, then select "Select columns"
In the Select columns window, place checkmarks next to I/O Reads and I/O Other.
Click OK to accept the changes.
Resize the Task Manager window so you can see the most of the columns.
Wait for the system to freeze.
Look at all of the columns to see if there's anything that looks excessively high - if so, let us know the Image name of the process.
FWIW - System Idle Process is supposed to have high CPU readings - anything else with high CPU readings is an issue.

Also, please provide us with copies of these 2 logfiles:
- Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes and press Enter
- Expand the Windows Logs category by clicking on the arrow/+ sign to it's left
- Right click on the Application log and select "Save all events as" and name it Application
- Then, right click on the System log and select "Save all events as" and name it System
- Zip up the log files and upload/attach them with your next post.

NOTE: If the log files are too big to upload to the forums, please upload them to a free file hosting service and provide us with the link to the files.

Problem Solved

http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-...mittent-hanging-no-cpu-usage-but-100-hdd.html

I had the same hanging issues on a brand new custom built computer that ran perfect for 5 months. All of a sudden in March the hanging began.. First once in awhile, then as time went by more and more persistent hanging with the HDD light on solid .. After 3 months of messing around, testing, reinstalling, trying everything i could think of I replaced the motherboard thinking it was the problem only to have the same thing happen, so I went and bought a WD blue drive and partitioned and formatted reinstalled windows 7 and magically the hanging went away. My PC's running like new again, the problem was the western digital green drive... it showed no errors in multiple tests with both Windows 7 and WD's software. I cant believe I let something so simple baffle me like that for 3 months. I guess some drives don't play well or cant keep up with with Windows 7.. :geek:
