Rare motherboard/vga failure and PCIe question

Hey, recently my vga is failing and it wont display image after turning on and off several times the computer... is strange because i now figured out a way to always turn it on...
I need to power off my pc and immeadiately turn on and that solves the problem partially.... anyway i think that my vga is almost dead... but i think is due my motherboard becuase in the past it killed 2 usb ports...

well the pcie question is, can i kill a pcie card, for turning on and off repeatedly and constantly over the time??

Heat is the real long term enemy to electronics and the components should have protection for turn on voltages. Now with that being said I don't have any idea what is going wrong here to have as you say killed two usb ports and as you suspect that the mobo is the culprit and if so then it could be stressing circuits and if so then the PCIe may well be stressed as well. If you ask me I would back up all important document ASAP and then start to budget for at least some new components if not a whole new system. Hard drives are cheap these days and if I were you that is the first thing to worry about then consider a new mobo/cpu/gpu combo or maybe look into a nice bare bones system to build and learn from...........back up soon ! When was the last time you blew out and cleaned the inside case real well and un-seated and re-seated cables and such? Good luck, the Cheese

Well i do an intensive cleaning to my pc every 6 months... and every month i use my air blower and a brush to take out the dust from mobo and electronic parts... I'm pretty sure that my case has a good cooling system... i have a big thermaltake fan on cpu... and 4 fans on the case... i've done some OC to the system but i've always worked on safe limits and trying not to mess with voltages so much...

thank god i backed up all my system, but im very worried that if i keep turning on and off and on again to make it work will kill other stuff... i've also take out my pci cards... but i was worried that something happened to them as i take them out way before this began to happen.. the last time i used them ( when i was going to take them out) they were fine... but im afraid that they degradated a little bit....

and so my question, could they been degradated in any ways for turning pc on and off excessively??? (altough they seem to be fine)

Yes if you turn it on and off continuously 24/7 for the next 10 years I can almost guarantee a component problem. Really the issue here should be how quickly can I order replacement parts for my failing mobo. I would concentrate on my next component move which sounds two fold or more fold. You will be replacing the mobo and CPU at least and complete system in the worst case maybe saving a hard drive or optical of so to bring into the new build or store bought system. In the mean time you must do the little tricks you've found you must do to turn on the system no getting around that right?

Well im planning buying new pc parts next month... for now i think i'll survive until then heheheh

Anyway im now more relaxed because i saved my other pci cards and i guess that they didnt received any damage from the constant turn on/off the pc

Cheers kbzona, Sorry for the electronic gremlins and good to hear of your routine system inspection and cleaning. I feel that heavy dust build up on electronics with heat and potential current draws and shorting is one of those hidden issues that helps failure rates......imho. Boats, Cars, Planes, Stereos, Cameras really everything benefits from maintenance and cleanings and it's good you understand this !
