On the other hand, the 2600k is new and people won't know the problems etc with it and you may waste your money. My suggestion is that you get the i7 950 for at least 3 months until all the major issues with the 2600k are fixed.

I suggest he gets the 2600K, socket 1366 is EOL right now so no sense in investing in it when the 1155 is out.

Waiting for SB is the right move IMO.

Why?

• Better clock for clock performance vs i5/i7 (10% - 15% more)
• 32nm manufacturing tech (meaning lower power consumption, they'll run cooler, more OC headroom [Intel released a video showing SB OC'ed to 5GHz on Air :insane:]).

I'm definitely making the move to SB come January.

EDIT: Nice choice on the video card as well mate. Cayman's gonna be a HUGE success.

As noted earlier, it's a processor.... there will be no issues to be fixed. Now, if you argue motherboard, than you might have an argument. On the processor.... no.

As for the i7-950, you can get it from Microcenter for $199. The catch.... in-store pickup only.... meaning no on-line orders will be shipped. Micro Center - Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz Boxed Processor 865204

I have a 930 and the price of the 950 is so appealing I'm seriously considering getting one myself.

Anyways to the OP, nice system, though I agree, get a bigger case. I have a HAF X and I love it. See my system specs.

Edit: Before declaring the Sandybridge king of the hill.... check it against the i7-900 series chips on a 1366 socket. It's still king of the hill until it get's replaced at a later date.

I thought Antec 1200 was reasonably big though? I'm considering the Antec 1200, CM HAF X, NZXT Phantom and the Silverstone RV01 right now. I'm leaning towards the HAF X as it has a front USB 3.0 and appears to be a beast

There are no more chips coming out for 1366, so what they have on the market is what you can get.

I understand that. My point is that Intel still considers the i7-900 series chips their premier chip until they are replaced. That the sandybridge chips aren't those replacements. If you look at the reviews, they basically compare to the i7-800 series. That's the way I read it anyway.

Why wait for the Sandy Bridge? New technology could and probably will be unstable at least for the first 3-6 months.

This is generally not the case with processors...

It is with motherboards though. I learned this when socket 1156 came out. Got a board and i7860 on the 1st day and the boards were discontinued because of the sockets within 2 months.

I would wait at least 3-4 months before going to a new socket
