Hey all,

as you probably all know the RC is coming to an end, so i need to install my purchased version of Home Pre.
So what i'm going to do is just clean install, problem is, is that i've done easy transfer but don't have enough space for my video collection so i can't put that on my HDD, so i was just wondering if this will be put in the windows.old folder so i could get it back without backing them up.
Could someone please tell me if this is what will happen.

And is there any way to keep or reinstall all my programs without having to download them again, i've tried to keep most of them but i'm missing a few, and i don't have an amazing D/L speed it takes a while.

So if anybody can tell me anyother way of installing before the expiry date that would be kind.

Thank You

Nope I think you need to back them up. Was RC ultimate? if so you cant upgrade from ultimate to pro. Need to clean install.

You wish to install the retail Home Premium version over the RC as an upgrade? You're not supposed to do that on two counts:

1) Officially, you are not supposed to upgrade the RC to RTM.

2) The RC version is Ultimate, and the upgrade does not normally permit a downgrade to a lesser version.

There are hacks for both of these:

Upgrade the Windows 7 RC to any retail version Icrontic Tech

I haven't used them, and I can't say how likely they are to give you a good working version of Win7.

It sounds like you need to buy an external HD to back up your stuff, though. If it's worth keeping, relying on a single HD to store it is rather optimistic. Performing a major OS operation on that single hard drive, without a backup, is outright foolhardy. It's also nice to maintain an archive of the installers for all that downloaded software that you don't wish to re-download.

I will have a look at the link,
i did say say that i used easy transfer for most of my docs and music onto my external HDD, but i just don't have enough room for my Videos and i was hoping that they would end up in windows.old, since i've installed win 7 on different computers its always been there, and i was just wondering if it was pure chance, buut it doesn't matter i've found out the answer.

Thanks

You cannot trust your data to be placed in the windows.old folder.

Perhaps if you manually drag the files rather than using Easy Transfer, there will be enough room to store them.

Most users know where their files are, so the only extra thing Easy Transfer gets (besides a bunch of empty files) are settings in hidden AppData folders, but these are a corruption path into your new install and should be avoided since Programs need to be reinstalled anyway.

doesnt matter now, i decided to take the risk, and its ok, clean install, got all my videos ect... just downloading all drivers and programs.
Just another quick question while i'm here, i want to clean my WMP library, and then rescan, but is there a way to make WMP forget everything?
thanks
