Hi

I hope I've placed this post in the right forum as I'm not really sure which forum it should be placed in. This seemed the best bet.

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me re-enable a sound input in my configuration (I think it was a Digital input). I have recently re-installed W7 following a change of mobo (to a Gigabyte GA-EP41-UD3L). However, whilst setting up my sound system I disabled a sound input in my profile in the belief it would be easy enough to re-enable it if needed. In the event, I just cannot work out how to re-enable it. It seems to be easy enough in XP but in W7 I just cannot work it out. Now I find myself unable to record audio from videos I play on my PC - I can ONLY record/monitor audio from sound files; I've no problem in XP (I have a W7/XP dualboot setup). I've tried creating a different user account but all to no avail - it doesn't change anything at all.

So! I hope someone may be able to give me some guidance on how to re-enable my sound input- PLEASE! My only other alternative is to reinstall yet again - something I don't look forward to!

You don't tell us which sound drivers you've got...Was it Realtek one? In your system Specs you mention "Sound Card Integrated with mobo".....

Thanks for your response. Must be honest, I haven't yet updated my system spec yet but yes, it is still an integrated sound card. Apparently my mobo has Realtek 888 hardware and I have updated the drivers but nothing I do enables me to find what I need. Still, Win7 being the OS it is, its has probably been hidden somewhere and its just a case of finding it. Any suggestions as to where I may find the appropriate dialogue to re-enable my audio input.

I've now sussed it. By persisting and trying numerous different search terms I eventually found a forum thread which gave me the answer. For the benefit of anyone else in a similar position the process was to right click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select recording devices. Then right click in a clear area of the resulting window and select Show Disabled Devices. Then click OK. Leastways, it worked for me.

Great! It sorted out by yourself. You can now add "Realtek ALC 888" to your soundcard spec.

PS:
Don't forget to click upper right the Panel "!" when you feel ready, and type "solved" in the box & send!
