I found 4 duplicates of every picture / video in explorer that was imported from my camera's sd card.

I deleted them all from my pc. The I re-ran the rebuild index option. It appears to finish. Emptied recycle bin prior. Rebooted pc.

Inserted SD card and still getting "no new pictures or videos to import" message.

Anyone?

Are you using a card reader or connecting the camera to the PC? Card readers are much more reliable than the camera - PC connection.

I use a multi-card reader and have never had any problems. But I always copy the files from the card to a disk folder using Win Explorer first before doing anything with them. Are you importing directly from the card into some software? If you are, the problem is probably there. I use Lightroom but when I import it is from a folder in my harddrives.

Ahh! The autoplay thing. Well, all I can say is that I turn it all off as I find it annoying. Frankly I don't want some strange critter telling me when and what I should do with my stuff :D. I just copy my stuff over manually when I get back from shooting. From the looks of things, looks like you'd be wise to do likewise :).

Well the auto play nicely creates the folders per your request: tag and date by picture dates. Doing this manually for hundreds of pics and vids is not an option

First question. Are the pictures still on the SD card?

Presuming they are, it would appear as though those same pictures are saved somewhere on your PC. :) Do a search and see if you can find them anywhere.

Are you importing directly from the card into some software? If you are, the problem is probably there.
I tend to agree with this thought.

I tend to agree with this thought.

I am using the default "auto play" option to import to the PC. Its default built in Explorer, not some 3rd party software. I think I made this clear by now.

Yes, the pictures are on the card, of course.

I searched for a few file names on the entire C drive..no match found.

No answer huh? I have the same question as i want to re-import so all the pictures can mbe renamed and retaged like all the others. OF course there is 3rd party programs out there that will do and bravo to all you who want to "do it all on my own because you don't like autoplay", but that isn't the problem here. The question is, how can I re-import the pictures so I can change the settings and the tag names to go a specific place without having to use a program like File Ranamer and manually move them all over. We're not talking 2 picutes here, there are many. I put the card in and it says: "No New Picuress" like the other user.

go to folder options by typing folder on the search screen
Then go to view on folder options
on advanced setting change dont show hidden files to Show hidden files and press apply
go to user[whatever its call] > AppData > Local > Microsoft > Photo Acquisition
Then delete the file thats read as PreviouslyAcquired or you can rename it as PreviouslyAcquired.old
And thats it, import your picture againt by inserting you card or loading picture and video import
Remember to put back your folder option as default.
This instruction work on Windows 7, but with some changed may work on xp, good luck.

I'm experiencing the same problem, my computer has a built-in card reader. I initially imported 400 +/- pictures from an SD card, went fine. I added more pictures to the SD card, imported them as a new folder, the added pictures were in random order !? Deleted both folders, also the trash-bin. Now when I attempt to import the pictures again (hoping thy'll be in order) I get the message "there are no new pictures....." !?

Thanks much for the 'fix' realboy77, I was able to re-import the pictures from the SD card ! However they do not appear (in the picture library) in the order they were scanned onto the card though they do appear in the proper order if played as a 'slide-show' on the computer. If I copy these pictures to a DVD what's the chances of them appearing in the proper order ?
