Read only problem on w 7

I can't see how to post a question on a new thread, sorry if this is in the wrong place.
I'm no computer whizz, just a writer, trying to write a novel and having shed loads of problems because my nice new Toshiba with 64 Windows 7 has decided to change my novel to READ ONLY almost every time I open it.
Can you please help? I've looked and the read only box is not checked so I can't uncheck it. I've run a diagnostic which assures me I have no problems........

Thanks, but I downloaded the take ownership zip file and as far as I can tell (I've searched everywhere I can think of,) my computer doesn't even recognize that it was downloaded - tried it twice, still the same....

I have Norton 360, which is what came with the Toshiba laptop. I just checked to see what was in quarantine but it doesn't give the names, just dates, without (somehow) releasing the quarantined files and risking infection, I'm not sure what to do to find out.
Plus, I now have around six copies of my novel in my documents folder because I have to keep using the Save as to save my work. I tried deleting the older ones, by according to my extremely clever Windows 7 software, apparently, these documents are open and so cannot be deleted. Even when I close all the doc files and only have the document library folder open to try and delete, with no actual docs open, still, it says the docs are open.

every time i use the "take ownership" command for the entire win folder my custom icons & themes are deleted or i lose the default icons for ms office suite / adobe suite / etc...

i guess the command gives extra rights to ccleaner (that's what i use for daily maintenance) and it probably deletes some dll or something, of course i don't use its backup registry option ;|

Well, seem to have finally mastered the job of correctly downloading and finding the Take Ownership stuff. Now I R click on the name of the document and select Take Ownership. A black dialogue flashes for a millisecond then disappears but, fingers crossed, this will stop my W7 jellyware from having read only control!
