Readying a Hard Drvie

I have three internal hard drives C: D: and E.
D is 500g and holds about 170 gigs of info and the E is 1tb and has about 500 gigs of info.

Why is it with Windows 7 that when I go to "Computer" and double click the E drive that it always takes a while for it to get ready?
I always see the green progress bar at the top of the window for a few seconds and then it's ready.

It used to not be that way with XP.
Is this something new in Win7?
I just want to know so I'll know if the hard drive is going bad or if this is a Win7 feature and is perfectly normal.

It's normal. It's a fancier install that can do more and it checks more things more completely. If you proceed with the install, w7 will give you various options, like formatting and or partitioning your hard drive if you want and which drive to use to install W7.

I don't understand what you mean with "fancier install".
Sounds like you may have misunderstood my question.

Both hard drives are already installed.
When I click the smaller one (500g) it is immediately ready.
When I click the larger one (1tb) I always have to wait for a few seconds for the green progress bar to go through then it's ready.

I was asking if that is normal.

No it sounds like you have misunderstood my reply. But that's OK. I meant that the windows 7 installation process is fancier in the sense that it is more advanced than some previous versions of windows and hence may take a few seconds longer to analyze the specifics of your system to prepare for the install OF WINDOWS, not your hard drive(s). But it has to take stock of what's there before it can offer you appropriate install (OF WINDOWS) choices.

But, of course it's normal for a larger drive to take longer to be read. Just as it takes longer for a car traveling at a constant 60 mph to travel 10 miles than it does to travel 5 miles.
