Reallly weird problem after reformat.....

I just reformatted my laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate x86. I reformat a lot of times and never once had this problem before. The problem is, I tried to backup a folder in Program Files using Winrar, I do this by right clicking on a file or folder, and choose "Add to Archive". By doing this, Winrar will create a .rar file of the file or folder you chose, i'm sure this is pretty simple since Winrar is a popular tool that almost everyone uses, it's also the same as Winzip or any other extractors.


Anyway, normally this shouldn't have any problem, but I get a message saying something like "Winrar cannot copy file, access denied" or something, I forgot the message because i fixed the problem already but it's something similar to that.


I fixed it by unticking the "Read Only" attribute for the Program Files folder, and i had to do the same for the folders that i want to backup inside the Program Files folder as well.


The thing is, this never happened to me before, even though Program Files is set to Read Only, i've always been able to overwrite or backup files using Winrar without any problem, i haven't installed anything else other than my antivirus programs and did a few windows updates, that's it, and it can't be the antivirus programs causing this since i used them for at least a year and never once had this problem.



Is this normal?? What are the reasons that may be causing this problem??

What file is it?
Some files,when downloaded,have to have the permissons changed and/or you need to take ownership becasue the author of the file has disabled anyone from tampering with it.

It allows you to take ownership of the file via the right click menu.

i've already taken ownership of my whole Program Files folder as well as setting my owner permission to Administrator, you do this by right click C:/ drive and go to Security Tab, then Advanced, then Owner. I never had this problem before with the same file so it can't be due to the permissions or w/e......I was trying to backup the folder Pop Peeper, it's an email client program.

But you are not the Owner of the file,the author of the program/file is.

You would be the administrator/username.

Those are the permissons you'd need to set.

Granted some files allow leave the owner as the downloader/installer but not many.

what i mean by taking ownership of the file and setting the permission as Admin via the security tab means that i've already set the permission to full control and taken the ownership of the file as an admin........please try out what i posted above, by going to C drive and right click to choose properties, and then proceed from there.
